Fancy fantasy football: Trent Richardson

By Nicholas Minnix

I love Trent Richardson. He's phenomenal. Unquestionably, the best running back available in this year's NFL Draft. The best prospect at the position since Adrian Peterson in 2007.

In his first season, he's expected to do it all - tote it, catch it, throw it, dance around it, put it on wax and toss it in the oven for an hour and a half at 375 degrees. He won't come off the field unless it's fourth down and he forgot his right-footed soccer boot.

I understand the excitement. What I don't understand is the unbridled love he's getting from amped fantasy owners this summer. According to Mock Draft Central, his ADP is 6.73. His average draft position in a handful of expert drafts at the site hasn't been much different.

Would you take Trent Richardson in the first 12 picks of your draft?

That question sounds pretty easy, doesn't it? It's kind of exciting to think about what he could do as a rookie. He could get the ball 30 times a game.

Do you want to bank it on the Cleveland Browns' running back?

That one sounds a little different, doesn't it? It's not quite that simple, of course. Cleveland's O-line is better than its backs have made it look.

But, since 2007, the Browns have finished 29th or worse in points scored. Is it so complicated that he's this outrageously good bet to be a top-six fantasy back in 2012?
