However, Parnell's average fastball velocity is 94.9 mph this year compared to 97.2 last year, and he's noted that sometimes he favors taking some off in favor of increased control. "You don't find a lot of pitchers who can 'add.' One of the things that makes Verlander so tough is that he's pitching at 94, and the next thing you know, here's one that's 100. That's what Bobby is doing. He's making pitches at 94, 95. The next thing you know, here's one at 98. It makes a big difference," Collins said.
