First Baseman

1B | Russell Branyan | New York Yankees | Free Agents
New York Yankees 1B Russell Branyan was already considered a long shot to make the roster. However, if the team signs free-agent OF Raul Ibanez (Phillies) and gives him guaranteed money, it will be extremely tough for Branyan to make the roster.

1B | Mark Trumbo | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Injury, Fantasy
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1B Mark Trumbo (foot) has been doing light work during his recovery. He will continue to take batting practice, jog lightly and do some limited work at third base - fielding balls in his general vicinity and making throws across the diamond. The team signed 1B Albert Pujols during the offseason, and are hopeful 1B Kendrys Morales (ankle) can serve as designated hitter. That means Trumbo will try to learn third base, and he might even play outfield at some point down the road.

1B | Kendrys Morales | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Injury, Fantasy
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1B Kendrys Morales (ankle) has been cleared by doctors to start running outside, yet another step in a process the team hopes will eventually get him sprinting full speed around the bases. 1B | Ryan Howard | Philadelphia Phillies | Injury, Fantasy
Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard (Achilles') has been doing some light running and has been able to swing a bat and take ground ball at first base. He is expected to start hitting off a tee in the next few days. Manager Charlie Manuel said Howard is slightly ahead of schedule in his rehab.

1B | Aubrey Huff | San Francisco Giants | Fantasy
San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Saturday, Feb. 18, that 1B Aubrey Huff is first in line at first base and left field, but the manager said it is not just because of his contract. "Not the contract. I think you have to look at what Huff has accomplished, his track record and what he did in 2010 for us," Bochy said. "You've got a very highly though of player like (1B Brandon Belt), and of course (1B Brett Pill) has fought his way into the mix, too."

"At the same time, our plans for him aren't to take him out there and let him take off and do a big strenuous workout. I think we have time to slowly let him go at his pace."

2B | Johnny Giavotella | Kansas City Royals | Fantasy
Kansas City Royals 2B Johnny Giavotella is manager Ned Yost's first choice to bat second in the team's lineup, but he'll need to beat out 2B Chris Getz for the position in spring training. And if it works out, he's the best candidate for it."

2B | Ian Kinsler | Texas Rangers | Injury, Fantasy
Texas Rangers 2B Ian Kinsler (ankle) said Sunday, Feb. 19, that he is finally recovered from an ankle injury that has bothered him for almost two years.
