NFL Draft Pick 2:27 - Aaron Dobson, WR, New England Patriots

by Tim Heaney on April 26, 2013 @ 17:51:27 PDT

The New England Patriots selected Marshall wide receiver Aaron Dobson with the 59th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Fantasy analysis: The pick may have been a bit early for his value, but New England is probably confident they can throw him into the fire early. Dobson is best known for his slick hands, as he went without a recorded drop in 2012. He's an X wideout that'll allow Danny Amendola to work from the slot in three-wide formations. The 6-foot-3, 205-pounder gives Tom Brady a tall target on the outside, and he's somewhat adept at making deep plays but is more suitable as a possession receiver.

It may take him some time to get comfortable with Josh McDaniels' playbook unless they keep him focused on go routes to open up the field for the other targets. He may also get increased chances if Rob Gronkowski (forearm) and/or Aaron Hernandez (shoulder) start the season late; this receiver corps is hardly cemented, as well, so a good camp could propel him up the depth chart. Unfortunately, these possibilities don't mean you should spend anything more than a final-round fantasy flyer in deep setups, and he's more appropriately a wait-and-see inseason pickup.
