Fantasy Football Sleepers: PK - Week 10 (with video)

by Nicholas Minnix and Cory J. Bonini on November 7, 2012 @ 16:10:56 PDT

In this article KFFL breaks down the fantasy football sleepers of the week. We will avoid marquee names because players of that caliber are rarely benched, regardless of their matchup. Instead, we will focus on the players that make your fantasy lineup decisions stressful each week. Read on to learn which midrange to low-end players you wouldn't necessarily consider that you need to get into your lineup.

Note: All statistics are from Week 5 through Week 8 unless otherwise stated.

Fantasy football sleepers: Place kickers

Philadelphia Eagles PK Alex Henery
Henery the sleeper, he is, he is

Sebastian Janikowski, Oakland Raiders at Baltimore Ravens

Fantasy value: High-end No. 1

  • Sea-bass has accounted for 8.9 kicking points per game this season because he hasn't missed an extra point attempt and has made 95 percent of his 2.50 field goal attempts per game.
  • Lately, Oakland has been getting their left-footed ball-booter a little more action: 3.00 field goal attempts and 2.25 extra point attempts per game. Janikowski missed one of his 12 field goal attempts in that time.
  • Baltimore has given up 2.75 field goal attempts and 1.88 extra point attempts per game this season. Injuries have really hurt a defense that's a shadow of its former dominant self. Recently, they've yielded 3.67 field goal attempts and 2.33 extra point attempts per game.
  • If Oakland doesn't miss Darren McFadden (ankle) and Mike Goodson (ankle) too badly in this matchup - they shouldn't, really - they should continue to come up with chances for Janikowski.

NEW - Rob Bironas, Tennessee Titans at Miami Dolphins

Fantasy value: High-end No. 1

  • The veteran kicker has been respectable of late, notching 1.75 field goals and 2.25 point-afters per game. He has converted 87.5 percent of his kicks. Jake Locker (shoulder) could return this week, which makes this recommendation just as solid: Bironas lined up for eight field goal tries in three games with the young QB at the helm.
  • Miami, whose defense matches up well with Tennessee's O, has given up the most field goal attempts (4.00) but only 0.67 extra point kicks per game.

NEW - Dan Carpenter, Miami Dolphins vs. Tennessee Titans

Fantasy value: High-end No. 1

  • On the other side of the matchup, Carpenter has an equally appetizing outlook. He has averaged a pair of field goal attempts and 2.33 touchdown cappers per contest, with all of the kicks splitting the uprights.
  • Only the Baltimore Ravens have given up more average fantasy points per game than the Titans' 10.8. That originated from surrendering 3.25 extra points and 3.00 three-point attempts (2.50 made) per game.

Justin Tucker, Baltimore Ravens vs. Oakland Raiders

Fantasy value: Low-end No. 1

  • Oakland has been a bit fortunate that kickers have missed a few field goal attempts lately. The team has given up 3.00 field goal attempts and 2.75 extra points attempts per game.
  • The Raiders are incredibly inconsistent, but they've improved on defense a bit. This season, they've allowed 2.63 field goal attempts and 3.13 extra point attempts, but as their recent numbers demonstrate, they're causing more drives to stall at their end of the field instead of yielding TDs.
  • The Ravens have provided Tucker with 2.00 field goal attempts and 2.50 extra point attempts per game this season. Recently, those averages are only 1.33 and 2.33, respectively, but a couple of tough matchups are now in the rearview. Tucker should rack up some points against the Raiders.

Alex Henery, Philadelphia Eagles vs. Dallas Cowboys

Fantasy value: Low-end No. 1

  • The Eagles' offense is sputtering, in case you haven't heard. This season, Henery has had 1.88 field goal attempts and 1.63 extra point attempts per game. Lately, not much has changed: He's received 2.00 field goal attempts and 1.67 extra point attempts per game.
  • This season, the Cowboys have yielded 2.25 field goal attempts and 2.38 extra point attempts per game. In recent games, those averages have been 3.00 and 2.25, respectively.
  • Dallas has faced some good teams in their last few games, but they've also made mistakes on offense that have helped the opposition come up with good field position and more scoring opportunities. Henery could be worth the shot in this contest.
