Fantasy Football Daily Rundown: Wednesday, Dec. 4

Quarterback

QB | Aaron Rodgers | Green Bay Packers | Injury, Fantasy
Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers (collarbone) was participating in individual drills during practice Wednesday, Dec. 4, but was working with backup centers.

Owners will have to monitor Rodgers' practice participation to get a better idea of his status. If Rodgers is able to play this week, he should be started in fantasy leagues.

QB | Caleb Hanie | Cleveland Browns | Injury, Fantasy
Cleveland Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski said he is not ready to name a starting quarterback for the team's Week 14 game. QBs Jason Campbell (concussion) and QB Brandon Weeden (concussion) have been cleared for activity but will not practice Wednesday, Dec. 4. QBs Caleb Hanie and Alex Tanney will split reps during practice. No quarterback has been ruled out to start the game.

QB | Jay Cutler | Chicago Bears | Fantasy
Chicago Bears general manager Phil Emery said the team doesn't want to use the franchise tag on QB Jay Cutler. "With the franchise tag being so high for the quarterback position, to use it and not sign the individual to a long-term deal hurts the team because you lose the ability to prorate the amount of guaranteed salary over the length of the contract," Emery said.

QB | Robert Griffin III | Washington Redskins | Injury, Fantasy
Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III's father originally rebuffed head coach Mike Shanahan's attempts to reach out after Griffin's knee injury in January. Robert Griffin Jr., appreciated the gesture but felt Shanahan should worry more about coaching than building a stronger bond with Griffin III. Griffin Jr., took issue with offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan's play-calling, which they felt put Griffin III at further risk after his initial injury.

Running Back

RB | Reggie Bush | Detroit Lions | Injury, Fantasy
Detroit Lions RB Reggie Bush (knee) sat out of practice Wednesday, Dec. 4.

RB | Brandon Jacobs | New York Giants | Injury, Fantasy
New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs (knee) is practicing Wednesday, Dec. 4.

RB | DeMarco Murray | Dallas Cowboys | Injury, Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
The Dallas Cowboys plan to ride RB DeMarco Murray as much as they can after losing RB Lance Dunbar (knee). "DeMarco Murray is our lead back, has been our lead back all year long, has done an excellent job for us, did a really good job in the game the other day again," head coach Jason Garrett said Tuesday, Dec. 3. "He'll be the lead dog. The other guys, (RBs Joseph Randle and Phillip Tanner) will have to step up if they have an opportunity if DeMarco can't go."

If you're a Murray fantasy owner, this is music to your ears. Randle and Tanner are not real threats to push their way into a timeshare with Murray, so he will see a bulk of the carries in a league where in this day and age teams are using a two-back system. Over his past three games, Murray has 238 rushing yards and four touchdowns, and he has eight receptions for 79 yards over his past two outings.

RB | Ben Tate | Houston Texans | Injury, Fantasy
Houston Texans RB Ben Tate (ribs, ankle) was limited in practice Tuesday, Dec. 3.

Tate's 100-yard performance, his first since 2011, last weekend proved he's getting past his cracked ribs. He admitted he felt much better after the Week 13 game, too. Tate is a solid RB2 again this weekend going up against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

RB | David Wilson | New York Giants | Injury, Fantasy
New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said there is no update on the future of RB David Wilson (neck).

RB | Maurice Jones-Drew | Jacksonville Jaguars | Injury, Fantasy
Jacksonville Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew (non-injury) did not participate in practice Tuesday, Dec. 3.

RB | Daniel Thomas | Miami Dolphins | Injury, Fantasy
Miami Dolphins RB Daniel Thomas (ankle) was walking without a limp Tuesday, Dec. 3.

RB | Le'Veon Bell | Pittsburgh Steelers | Injury, Fantasy
Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (concussion) said he's been feeling better after being knocked out in Week 13, but he doesn't remember much of the incident. "I don't remember the exact play. I didn't remember it when it first happened," said Bell. "Once I came off the field I didn't really know I had scored. Then they told me I did; then they told me it wasn't a touchdown. I wasn't aware of what was going on at the time because I got hit. I can't really remember what happened."

The only thing that matters is that Bell is feeling fine and is already running. He'll need to pass the concussion protocol, but if he plays against the Miami Dolphins, consider him a solid No. 2 back.

Wide Receiver

WR | Mike Brown | Jacksonville Jaguars | Injury, Fantasy
Jacksonville Jaguars WR Mike Brown (shoulder) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Dec. 4, and is listed as probable for Week 14.

Brown will be able to play this week, but owners likely will have better options to start at wide receiver.

WR | Cecil Shorts | Jacksonville Jaguars | Injury, Fantasy
Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (groin) was limited during practice Wednesday, Dec. 4, and is listed as probable for Week 14.

It appears like Shorts will be able to play even though he was limited during practice this week. Owners should consider him a low-end No. 2 or No. 3 wide receiver for their starting lineups.

WR | Calvin Johnson | Detroit Lions | Injury, Fantasy
Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (knee) sat out of practice Wednesday, Dec. 4.

WR | Hakeem Nicks | New York Giants | Injury, Fantasy
New York Giants WR Hakeem Nicks (abdomen) is not listed on the injury report this week.

WR | Brian Hartline | Miami Dolphins | Fantasy
The Miami Dolphins could face wintry weather in their Week 14 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday, Dec. 8. The forecast currently calls for a wintry mix with temperatures in the low 30's with an east wind around 10 mph. "Snow is probably last because it's really not as wet or causes as many problems," WR Brian Hartline said Tuesday, Dec. 3. "Wind can be a pain in the butt because ball location changes really quickly. Rain, it depends because if it's soaking wet, it's maybe not as bad because you can adjust."

If the weather plays a factor, the team could move to a more ground-based attack on offense, which would limit the fantasy appeal of Mike Wallace, Hartline, Charles Clay and Ryan Tannehill, as well as Caleb Sturgis. It could be good news for Lamar Miller, who gobbled up 72 rushing yards in Week 13 in New York, his most yards since Week 9.

WR | Michael Crabtree | San Francisco 49ers | Injury, Fantasy
San Francisco 49ers WR Michael Crabtree caught a 60-yard pass and looked to be at full speed in his season debut in Week 13 against the St. Louis Rams. He played a healthy amount of snaps and looks to be full speed. "I was at game speed," Crabtree said, when asked if he's as fast as before the injury. "I probably wasn't 100 percent, but I was trying to make everything happen. Anything he threw my way, I was trying to make the most of it."

A healthy Crabtree is a nice sight for the Niners and his fantasy owners. The addition of Crabtree opens up looks for Vernon Davis and Anquan Boldin in the passing game. Don't expect Crabtree to be the difference for your fantasy squad down the stretch, but there is optimism that he can at least contribute flex-like numbers if you decide to roll with him.

WR | Randall Cobb | Green Bay Packers | Injury, Fantasy
Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb (leg) has yet to be cleared to return to action.

Don't hold out hope for Cobb to make it back this season. If he does return, it probably won't do you any good in your fantasy playoffs.

WR | Percy Harvin | Seattle Seahawks | Injury, Fantasy
Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said WR Percy Harvin (hip) "had a little procedure last week" after his hip injury flared up.

Harvin will be back practicing later this week, but that doesn't mean he'll play in Week 14 or even for the rest of the regular season. Don't rely on him in your fantasy playoffs.

Tight End

TE | Jordan Reed | Washington Redskins | Injury, Fantasy
Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed (concussion) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Dec. 4.

Reed has a few more days to return to practice, but owners should have a backup plan in case Reed is not able to play Week 14.

TE | Dennis Pitta | Baltimore Ravens | Injury, Fantasy
Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said he is hopeful that TE Dennis Pitta (hip) will be able to play in the team's Week 14 game.

TE | Owen Daniels | Houston Texans | Injury, Fantasy
Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said he expects TE Owen Daniels (leg) to play again at some point this season. Daniels has been ruled out for Week 14.

TE | Scott Chandler | Buffalo Bills | Fantasy
Buffalo Bills TE Scott Chandler is on pace to finish with 55 catches and 655 yards. If he does, he'll break his career highs of 43 catches and 571 yards set in 2012, and finish with the second-most receiving yards by a tight end in franchise single-season history (726 by Paul Costa in 1967). Chandler also has at least one catch in 28 straight games, and if he continues that streak through the end of the season, he'll set a team record for most consecutive games with a reception by a tight end. Reuben Gant holds the record of 31 games from 1976-78.

TE | Levine Toilolo | Atlanta Falcons | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter said Tuesday, Dec. 3, that he would like to get TE Levine Toilolo and OT Ryan Schraeder more involved. He wants to get Toilolo involved more playing time to improve the rookie's blocking skills.

The good news is that it doesn't sound like Toilolo's increase in snaps will take away from the targets of Tony Gonzalez. If you're a fantasy owner of Gonzalez, start him as you normally would.
