Rudolph's owners red-nosed

Looking strong with each week following his early-season spleen fears, the Dallas Cowboys' Jason Witten has caught nearly 70 percent of his targets this year. His 29 in the last month rank second among all tight ends, and he had a bye in Week 5. He's on his way to top-five PPR numbers at the position the rest of the way.

Our On Target reminds you of two fringe starters that put up Week 7 goose eggs: Vernon Davis and Kyle Rudolph. In fact, they were quite troublesome to rank, and will probably border on flex territory most weeks moving forward.

With his reputation as the San Francisco 49ers' top receiving target, Davis was swallowed up in Week 7 by the Seattle Seahawks' safeties and made most of his contributions while blocking. He's rated as one of the league's best in that department, and San Fran isn't afraid to have him do so often while sacrificing his statistics. Davis has disappeared like this in the past, but people refuse to remember history. If he's playing against a solid pass rusher, he'll often be kept in to help protect Alex Smith.

Rudolph plays nearly every snap for this club, but his red-zone involvement is becoming shakier with Adrian Peterson's increasing strength. Christian Ponder's flaws have been more blatant of late. If the Minnesota Vikings can stay competitive without Ponder having to throw 30-plus times, he'll return to game-manager-first duties.

Davis' schedule looks slightly better than Rudolph's the rest of the way. VD will test the Arizona Cardinals, St. Louis Rams (if he can avoid Cortland Finnegan), New Orleans Saints, Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots (though Bill Belichick might tell his defense to snuff out San Fran's biggest weapon).

In the last two weeks, Brandon Myers is tied with Heath Miller and Rob Gronkowski for the positional lead with 17 looks. Myers' 82.4 conversion percentage (28-for-34) also leads all tight ends with at least 30 looks. He's the clear-cut No. 2 receiving target for a recharged Oakland Raiders aerial attack.
