Quarterback

QB | Mark Sanchez | New York Jets | Injury, Fantasy
New York Jets owner Woody Johnson said the team has no plans to cut QB Mark Sanchez and eat the remainder of his contract. "Mark will be on the team; I don't think there's any question about that," said Johnson, who is paying Sanchez a guaranteed $8.25 million to be a backup. General manager John Idzik also ended speculation that the team would place Sanchez on the Injured Reserve. He'll have a chance to regain the starting job, but the team is moving away from him right now.

Sanchez's chances of regaining the starting job probably won't be up to him, but rather how Geno Smith performs in the first few weeks of the season. Even if he does regain the job, Sanchez should not be owned in leagues.

QB | Colin Kaepernick | San Francisco 49ers | Fantasy
San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick vastly improved on his touch passes in the offseason. TE Vernon Davis called him a completely different player in terms of his touch and precise decisions in the offseason.

Kaepernick was known to have a rifle of an arm, but some throws sailed on him. The improved touch should serve him well on short and intermediate routes. He also worked with Olympic sprinters in the offseason to try to improve his speed. Kaepernick sounds like he isn't resting on his laurels and has the work ethic to go with his wealth of physical talent.

QB | Robert Griffin III | Washington Redskins | Injury, Fantasy
Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (knee) will start the team's season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles Monday, Sept. 9, and he's not concerned at all about the health of his surgically repaired knee. "It'll feel good," Griffin said. "You will get hit when you play the game. I don't worry about it. It's what we get up every morning to do. We enjoy it. I'm not afraid of it. I'm not really anxious about it. Just go out there and play."

QB | Blaine Gabbert | Jacksonville Jaguars | Injury, Fantasy
Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blaine Gabbert (thumb) was limited in practice Wednesday, Sept. 4.

As of now, expect Gabbert to suit up in the season opener. However, he's unlikely to be owned unless you're in the deepest of leagues. Don't rely on him in Week 1.

QB | Chad Henne | Jacksonville Jaguars | Injury, Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley said the decision on whether to start QB Blaine Gabbert (thumb) or QB Chad Henne for Week 1 may not be made until game time.

QB | EJ Manuel | Buffalo Bills | Injury, Fantasy
Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel (knee) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Sept. 4.

Running Back

RB | Knowshon Moreno | Denver Broncos | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
Denver Broncos RB Knowshon Moreno could start in Week 1, and play the most in the running back committee.

The team is still looking for some stability at running back. Montee Ball has had trouble learning to pass protect, and Ronnie Hillman has had trouble holding on to the ball. Moreno appears to be on the most solid ground with the team.

RB | LaMichael James | San Francisco 49ers | Injury, Fantasy
San Francisco 49ers RB LaMichael James (knee) did not practice Wednesday, Sept. 4.

RB | Rashard Mendenhall | Arizona Cardinals | Injury, Fantasy
Arizona Cardinals RB Rashard Mendenhall (knee) was listed as a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Sept. 4.

Check back on Mendenhall later in the week. All indications are that he'll be ready to make his debut in Week 1. On a side note, his primary backup, Ryan Williams (knee), is not even listed on the injury report this week. Mendenhall is a solid low-end RB2 or flex play when healthy.

RB | Stepfan Taylor | Arizona Cardinals | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
Arizona Cardinals beat writer Mike Jurecki believes RB Stepfan Taylor will be used in short-yardage situations and will see the goal line carries.

Taylor is listed as the third RB on the depth chart behind Rashard Mendenhall and Ryan Williams, so don't look for him to make much of a fantasy splash, at least initially. He is worth stashing away in long-term keeper formats.

RB | LaRod Stephens-Howling | Pittsburgh Steelers | Fantasy
Pittsburgh Steelers RBs Felix Jones and LaRod Stephens-Howling likely will receive playing time Week 1 even though RB Isaac Redman will start he game. Stephens-Howling is expected to be the third-down back while Jones likely will receive time when Redman needs a break.

RB | Le'Veon Bell | Pittsburgh Steelers | Injury, Fantasy
Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (foot) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 4.

RB | Ahmad Bradshaw | Indianapolis Colts | Injury, Fantasy
Indianapolis Colts RB Ahmad Bradshaw (foot) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Sept. 4.

RB | Kenjon Barner | Carolina Panthers | Injury, Fantasy
Carolina Panthers RB Kenjon Barner (foot) and LB Jon Beason (knee) did not practice Wednesday, Sept. 4.

RB | Bilal Powell | New York Jets | Fantasy
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said RB Bilal Powell earned the Week 1 start with his work during the preseason. Ryan said RB Chris Ivory will still receive substantial work during the game.

Wide Receiver

WR | Robert Meachem | New Orleans Saints | Fantasy
New Orleans Saints WR Robert Meachem is happy to be back with the team, where is caught 45 passes for 722 yards and nine touchdowns in 2009. "Just watching him run around, he looks as good as ever," QB Drew Brees said. "I look forward to getting him incorporated back in."

Meachem had pretty solid chemistry with Brees before, so it'll be interesting if the two can regain some of that after lost time. Meachem provides the Saints with a proven No. 3 receiver. The signing will temper the excitement over Kenny Stills, but if he continues to produce like he did in the preseason, Meachem might just provide WR depth.

WR | Victor Cruz | New York Giants | Injury, Fantasy
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (heel) will participate in practice Thursday, Sept. 5.

WR | Danny Amendola | New England Patriots | Injury, Fantasy
New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola (groin) moved well in practice Thursday, Sept. 5.

The groin injury isn't nearly as worrisome as the dislocated shoulder he dealt with last season. The clavicle dislocated inwards near his chest and seemed to flare up every time he hit the ground last season. Amendola is a gritty player with a high motor and fragile frame. If he continues that style of play, he's likely to continue to be banged up. He's a high-risk, high-reward player.

WR | Santonio Holmes | New York Jets | Injury, Fantasy
New York Jets WR Santonio Holmes (foot) would not commit to play in the regular season opener Sunday, Sept. 8, against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when he was asked. "Still don't know," Holmes said Wednesday, Sept. 4. "Still haven't gotten any words from the docs yet on whether I should be playing or not. We're just going to keep playing it by ear now."

The team has had its soap opera during training camp and the preseason with the quarterback situation, but Holmes has also had his own little show going on. Fantasy owners will want to play it safe in Week 1 and keep Holmes reserved. Even if he is able to play, he is unlikely to do much against former teammate CB Darrelle Revis and a solid Buccaneers secondary, so why risk it?

WR | Kyle Williams | San Francisco 49ers | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
The San Francisco 49ers list WR Kyle Williams as a starting wide receiver opposite WR Anquan Boldin on their initial depth chart heading into the regular season opener against the Green Bay Packers.

Williams should still only be considered as a WR4 or flex option in most standard fantasy leagues, and perhaps as a WR3/4 or flex play in formats which reward individual return yardage.

WR | Wes Welker | Denver Broncos | Injury, Fantasy
Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker (ankle) practiced in full Wednesday, Sept. 4, and is probable for Week 1.

Start Welker like you normally would. It'll be interesting to see how the targets shake out between him, Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker. Welker will be more valuable in point-per-reception leagues, and the matchup against Baltimore is a decent one.

WR | Roddy White | Atlanta Falcons | Injury, Fantasy
Atlanta Falcons WR Roddy White (thigh) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 4.

WR | Marques Colston | New Orleans Saints | Injury, Fantasy
New Orleans Saints WR Marques Colston (foot) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Sept. 4.

Tight End

TE | Lance Kendricks | St. Louis Rams | Injury, Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
St. Louis Rams TE Lance Kendricks (knee) missed time during training camp and the preseason, but he was able to practice Wednesday, Sept. 4, and he does not even appear on the injury report for the Week 1 game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Kendricks was the top dog at the position last year, but the club added Jared Cook in the offseason. Kendricks will only have fantasy appeal in deeper leagues unless Cook suffers some sort of long-term injury.

TE | Rob Housler | Arizona Cardinals | Injury, Fantasy
Arizona Cardinals TE Rob Housler (ankle) did not practice Wednesday, Sept. 4. Head coach Bruce Arians said Housler is considered "day to day."

TE | Jordan Cameron | Cleveland Browns | Injury, Fantasy
Cleveland Browns TE Jordan Cameron (groin) practiced in full Wednesday, Sept. 4.

Barring a setback, Cameron should be expected to start in Week 1. In what's expected to be a tight end-friendly system, he should be considered a low-end No. 1 TE entering the regular season.

TE | Rob Gronkowski | New England Patriots | Injury, Fantasy
New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (back, forearm) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 4.

TE | Ed Dickson | Baltimore Ravens | Injury, Fantasy
Baltimore Ravens TE Ed Dickson (thigh) practiced in full Wednesday, Sept. 4, and is probable for Week 1.

Dickson is more of a low-end TE1, but his Week 1 matchup with the Denver Broncos may make him worthy of a flex play in deep leagues. The Broncos will be missing pass rusher and cornerback Champ Bailey, freeing up plenty of room for Dickson down the middle.

TE | Tyler Eifert | Cincinnati Bengals | Injury, Fantasy
Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (forearm) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Sept. 4.

TE | Marcedes Lewis | Jacksonville Jaguars | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, Jacksonville Jaguars TE Marcedes Lewis (calf) re-injured his calf during practice Wednesday, Sept. 4, and will be reevaluated.

Place Kicker

PK | Matt Prater | Denver Broncos | Fantasy
If Denver Broncos K Matt Prater makes one field goal on Thursday, Sept. 5, against the Baltimore Ravens, he will surpass former Broncos K Jason Elam for career field-goal accuracy. Prater is currently at 80.6 percent.

PK | Sebastian Janikowski | Oakland Raiders | Injury, Fantasy
Oakland Raiders TE David Ausberry (shoulder), PK Sebastian Janikowski (calf) and OT Jared Veldheer (triceps) did not practice Wednesday, Sept. 4.

PK | Dustin Hopkins | Buffalo Bills | Injury, Fantasy
Buffalo Bills PK Dustin Hopkins (groin) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 4, and will not play Week 1. PK Dan Carpenter will handle all of the kicking duties.
