New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez (hip) continued to take simulated at-bats on Monday, June 24, hitting one ball to the base of the center-field fence and another to the warning track in left-center. In his previous sessions, he'd hit mostly grounders, with a few line drives mixed in. Rodriguez also had an extensive base-running session and performed sliding drills on a mat in the outfield, both considered important steps before he can begin a minor league rehab assignment.

Outfielder

OF | Carl Crawford | Los Angeles Dodgers | Injury, Fantasy
Los Angeles Dodgers OF Carl Crawford (hamstring) has yet to resume running, and doesn't appear he'll be back before the All-Star break.

OF | Angel Pagan | San Francisco Giants | Injury, Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy

"I don't know that there's a time frame that they're dealing with," Ryan said. "I know that they're in a fact-finding mode right now so we'll just have to wait and see how that plays out. But do I worry about losing Nellie here shortly? No I don't. I really think he'll be with us and we'll just have to see where that goes."

OF | Mike Carp | Boston Red Sox | Injury, Fantasy
Boston Red Sox OF Mike Carp (hamstring) is still dealing with an injury. "He's not full speed, but he's able to play first base, but can't get into the outfield obviously with the way that he's running," manager John Farrell said.

OF | Yasiel Puig | Los Angeles Dodgers | Injury, Fantasy
Los Angeles Dodgers OF Matt Kemp (hamstring) went 0-for-5 with four strikeouts in his first rehab outing with Triple-A Albuquerque Saturday, June 22, serving as the designated hitter. He will play center field for the rest of his rehab assignment. Kemp is scheduled to play three games, but that could be extended to make sure his timing at the plate is right.

OF | Franklin Gutierrez | Seattle Mariners | Injury, Fantasy

Starting Pitcher

SP | J.A. Happ | Toronto Blue Jays | Injury, Fantasy
Toronto Blue Jays SP J.A. Happ (knee) is still "a ways away" from getting back into games, according to manager John Gibbons. Happ will have to make multiple rehab starts before he returns.

SP | Alex Cobb | Tampa Bay Rays | Injury, Fantasy,
Tampa Bay Rays SP Alex Cobb (concussion) is still hoping to return at some point this season after suffering a mild concussion after being hit by a line drive June 15. He has spent the last nine days resting and there is no timetable for his return to the mound. Cobb is dealing with a buildup of fluid in his right ear that will need to subside before he is cleared to resume physical activities. He'll also need to be symptom-free from concussions. He's still suffering from concussion-related headaches and has had bouts of vertigo. Doctors have told him he's healing quicker than expected and should see rapid progress in the near future.

SP | Kevin Gausman | Baltimore Orioles | Fantasy,
Baltimore Orioles SP Kevin Gausman will be used out of the bullpen, according to manager Buck Showalter.

SP | Jake Peavy | Chicago White Sox | Fantasy,
The San Diego Padres appear to be moving toward being buyers at the trade deadline this summer, and they are reportedly looking for starting pitching. The Friars have some money to spend, and the team brass has been discussing some big-name pitchers, including Chicago White Sox SP Jake Peavy. Other trade targets could be Miami Marlins SP Ricky Nolasco, Houston Astros SP Bud Norris and Baltimore Orioles SP Jake Arrieta.

SP | Wei-Yin Chen | Baltimore Orioles | Injury, Fantasy,
Baltimore Orioles SP Wei-Yin Chen (oblique) threw a four-inning simulated game Monday, June 24, and he'll begin a rehab assignment this weekend.

SP | Edinson Volquez | San Diego Padres | Injury, Fantasy,
The San Diego Padres are open to trading SP Edinson Volquez at the trade deadline, even though they plan to limit the workloads of SPs Andrew Cashner and Robbie Erlin this year. Ps Tyson Ross and Burch Smith are options to enter the rotation in the second half of the year. SP Joe Wieland (elbow) is expected to return after the All-Star break.

SP | Josh Johnson | Toronto Blue Jays | Fantasy,
A scout said Toronto Blue Jays SP Josh Johnson looked "magnificent" in his last start, and his velocity is improving. Johnson was averaging 94 mph with his fastball and was pitching well inside.

SP | Zack Wheeler | New York Mets | Fantasy,
One scout noticed that New York Mets SP Zack Wheeler threw only 53.9 percent of his pitches for strikes in his major league debut against the Atlanta Braves. "He can strike out hitters with his fastball," the scout said. "But as far as having command of his pitches, especially his secondary pitches, I don't think he's ready."

SP | Trevor Bauer | Cleveland Indians | Fantasy,
Cleveland Indians SP Trevor Bauer is a candidate to pitch one of the games of a doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox Friday, June 28. SP Carlos Carrasco could also be called back up to start in one of the two games. RP T.J. House, who was recalled Monday, June 24, is likely to be used out of the bullpen.

SP | Matt Harvey | New York Mets | Fantasy,
New York Mets SP Matt Harvey improved to 7-1 this year and lowered his ERA to 2.05 by shutting out the Philadelphia Phillies Sunday, June 23. Harvey threw 68 percent fastballs, his highest rate of the season, and averaged 97.2 mph with his heater. He tossed 23 fastballs that registered 98 mph or faster, and opponents have gone 0-for-23 on the year on pitches thrown at least 98 mph by Harvey.

SP | Dan Straily | Oakland Athletics | Transaction, Fantasy,

SP | Ricky Romero | Toronto Blue Jays | Fantasy

SP | Wandy Rodriguez | Pittsburgh Pirates | Injury, Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy,
Pittsburgh Pirates SP Wandy Rodriguez (forearm) threw 73 pitches in his rehab start on Sunday, June 23, with Triple-A Indianapolis. He went four innings, allowing a run on four hits and a walk while fanning five. He's not expected to need another rehab outing before he's activated from the disabled list.

SP | Gerrit Cole | Pittsburgh Pirates | Injury, Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy,
Pittsburgh Pirates SP Gerrit Cole, along with SP Jeanmar Gomez (forearm), is unlikely to remain in the rotation once both SPs Wandy Rodriguez (forearm) and A.J. Burnett (calf) return from the disabled list in the next couple of weeks. Cole's next start has been pushed back to Friday, June 28, versus the Milwaukee Brewers, because Gomez is returning to the rotation on Wednesday, June 26, and the club is off on Thursday, June 27. Gomez would move to the bullpen once Rodriguez returns. A demotion of Cole appears to be the easiest solution once everyone is healthy.

"There's a business component to it, as far as keeping our depth," general manager Neal Huntington said. "Gerrit's probably got the best stuff of anybody in the rotation ... (and) he's made three impressive outings. But the challenge is, if we need another starter later, it may make sense to send Gerrit back so we have a sixth quality starter." Huntington stressed that the possibility that Cole will gain Super Two status won't be a factor in the decision. Cole and SP Jeff Locke are the only pitchers in the rotation who have minor league options remaining.

RP | Daniel Moskos | free agent | Transaction, Free Agents,
The Chicago White Sox released RP Daniel Moskos Monday, June 24.

RP | Mariano Rivera | New York Yankees | Fantasy,
New York Yankees RP Mariano Rivera said he'd prefer to close out the All-Star game this year instead of start it. If he notches a save in the game, it would be his fifth career All-Star save. "I've been told about it, but I don't like it," Rivera said. "And the reason why I say that is it's not what I do. What I do is close the games, I don't start the games. It's a privilege and honor, but I'm not contemplating it." Rivera is tied for the major league lead in saves this year with 26, and he's blown just one save this year to go along with a 1.61 ERA.
