I never got to a point where I could say, 'Holy cow, that's my bat speed.'"

Second Baseman

2B | Danny Espinosa | Washington Nationals | Fantasy
The Washington Nationals want 2B Danny Espinosa to work on his approach at the plate with Triple-A Syracuse. Espinosa went 2-for-21 with an RBI, three walks and 14 strikeouts while on his rehab assignment. "We need for him to get to a place in his mechanics and his approach that allows him to put the barrel of the bat on the ball and to utilize the other skills that he has: power, speed, defense and that type of thing," general manager Mike Rizzo said. "He has to be more consistent and have an approach that allows him to succeed at this level." Rizzo said 2B Anthony Rendon's performance at the big league level won't impact the team's plans for Espinosa.

2B | Brandon Phillips | Cincinnati Reds | Fantasy
Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips is in a 3-for-28 (.107) slump and was fined by manager Dusty Baker last week for not running hard to first base. "He is trying too hard more than anything," said Baker. "He ain't hurtin' any more (from getting hit on the forearm by a pitch in Pittsburgh). He is just swinging at bad pitches and nobody is going to hit swinging at bad pitches."

2B | Alexi Amarista | San Diego Padres | Fantasy
The San Diego Padres have options to play shortstop with SS Everth Cabrera (hamstring) headed to the disabled list. INFs Alexi Amarista, Pedro Ciriaco and Logan Forsythe can all fill in. Amarista struggled defensive at shortstop Tuesday, June 18. Forsythe has been filling in at second base with 2B Jedd Gyorko (groin) on the DL.

Baltimore Orioles 2B Brian Roberts (hamstring) started running sprints yesterday and hopes to start a rehab assignment by the end of Baltimore's road trip.


Shortstop

New York Mets SS Ruben Tejada (quadriceps) has yet to resume any lateral movement in his recovery from a strained right quadriceps muscle. He has been fielding grounders hit directly at him, but is not yet running on his injured right leg. The team still has no timetable for his return.

Toronto Blue Jays SS Jose Reyes (ankle) will move to Triple-A Buffalo, and he is scheduled to play three rehab games with them starting Friday, June 21. It's possible that he could return to the lineup Monday, June 24, against the Tampa Bay Rays. "I don't want to take too long because I need to be here and not down there. When I start to see live pitching and I feel like my swing is comfortable enough to be here I'm going to come up," Reyes said.

SS | Derek Jeter | New York Yankees | Injury, Fantasy
New York Yankees SS Derek Jeter (ankle) took on-field batting practice for the first time Wednesday, June 19, since being cleared for baseball activities. He took 21 swings and looked comfortable at the plate. He also took groundballs and fielded balls backhanded before throwing to first base.

San Francisco Giants SS Brandon Crawford (fingers) is doubtful to play Thursday, June 20, as he deals with swelling and pain in his two sprained fingers, but he could pinch hit if needed Wednesday, June 19. Third Baseman

Porter Fischer, described as a former marketing director with Biogenesis, said Anthony Bosch met with New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez during the American League Championship Series last year when Rodriguez sought to break a 1-for-9 slump. Fischer also said that Major League Baseball paid him $5,000 for clinic records he turned over to the league in their investigation of Biogenesis. Investigators have found some of Fischer's information as it relates to Rodriguez to be credible, according to sources. Fischer has cooperated in exposing Biogenesis because Bosch refused to pay Fischer money that he was owed.

Pitching coach Mickey Callaway and bullpen coach Kevin Cash think Perez is opening up too early in his delivery, which is hurting his velocity. Perez will throw Friday, June 21, and he'll likely need another rehab appearance. Manager Terry Francona said Perez won't be activated from the disabled list after a bullpen session Friday.

Cincinnati Reds RP Jonathan Broxton (forearm) has been shut down since landing on the disabled list. "He's been working on strengthening it," trainer Paul Lessard said. "He finally has his full range of motion back. We wanted to get it flushed out. He'll probably start throwing again this weekend. I don't want to call it a target date, but that's what we're looking at. RP Sean Marshall (shoulder) is long tossing from 120 feet.
