New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (wrist) could be activated from the 60-day disabled list as early as next Thursday, and he's scheduled to play in extended spring games Saturday, May 25, through next Tuesday, and then play two games for Double-A Trenton Wednesday and Thursday. "We took it very conservative for the first month," Teixeira said. "The last two weeks in Tampa have been great. It's been really good."

New York Mets manager Terry Collins said OF Lucas Duda and 2Bs Daniel Murphy and Justin Turner are options to play first base if the team decides to send 1B Ike Davis down to the minors. The team hasn't discussed the possibility of such a move yet, though.

Philadelphia Phillies 2B Chase Utley (oblique) could return from a mild oblique strain when he's eligible to return from the disabled list in two weeks, but Utley is cautious in not rushing himself back. "We really won't know for another week or so, how it's recovering," Utley said. "Obviously I'd like to be back in 15 days. But I don't think it's smart to come back if it's not ready."

Profar, at 20 years and 95 days old, is the youngest player to hit a leadoff homerun since Lou Klimchock (18 years, 348 days) of the Kansas City Athletics homered on Sept. 28, 1958, against the Chicago White Sox.

San Diego Padres SS Everth Cabrera recorded his league-leading 19th stolen base of the season and the 100th of his career Saturday, May 25, against the Arizona Diamondbacks. At the plate, he went 3-for-5 with a double, home run, two runs scored and a career-high four RBIs. The homer was Cabrera's second in as many games.

Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell said SS Stephen Drew (back) is dealing with some back soreness but does not think he will miss an extended amount of time. Drew suffered the back injury while sliding into second base awkwardly last week.

Toronto Blue Jays SS Jose Reyes (ankle) was able to begin running Friday, May 24, which is the first time he has put a lot of pressure on his ankle since he injured it. He has been hitting tosses and played catch before starting to run. He is expected to take batting practice and field ground balls next week and could even resume full baseball activities.

SS | Hanley Ramirez | Los Angeles Dodgers | Injury, Fantasy
Los Angeles Dodgers SS Hanley Ramirez (hamstring) will likely need at least four or five minor-league rehab games before he is activated from the 15-day disabled list, according to manager Don Mattingly. "I don't think he's quite as close as it may look," Mattingly said Friday, May 24.


Third Baseman

The Kansas City Royals have placed C Salvador Perez on the bereavement list and will miss three to seven days. Perez is leaving the team because of the death of his grandmother. In a corresponding move, the team recalled C Adam Moore from Triple-A Omaha.

Detroit Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez was searching for his second-career no-hitter Friday, May 24, against the Minnesota Twins, but C Joe Mauer broke it up with a clean single in the top of the ninth inning with one out. He also took a no-hitter in the seventh inning last season against the Cleveland Indians. Sanchez still finished with a complete game shutout, walking three and striking out 12 batters. He needed a career-high 130 pitches to finish off the victory.

Washington Nationals C Wilson Ramos (hamstring) continues to receive treatment and work out, but he's likely to need a few extra days past when he's eligible to return from the 15-day disabled list.

San Francisco Giants OF Angel Pagan (hamstring) is listed as day-to-day because of a mild left hamstring strain. He first experienced pain during the game Saturday, May 25, and is receiving treatment.

Cincinnati Reds OF Ryan Ludwick (shoulder) said he isn't expected to be activated from the disabled list before mid-August, at the earliest. "People seem to be under the impression that I'll be back in the middle of July and that's a complete lie," he said. "I can't even resume baseball activities until July 3, so it's at least the middle of August. I can't even throw a baseball or swing a bat until July. I've got a whole lot of stuff to do. I've got to get in baseball shape, as they call it. You take three, four months from throwing a baseball, it's going to take a while to get your arm back in shape."

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Andrew McCutchen has cut down his strikeout rate 43 percent - from 19.6 percent last year to 11.1 percent this year. His career rate is 17 percent, so the numbers might mean he is developing a more discerning eye at the plate and becoming an even better hitter. McCutchen said he is using the same approach he has always used, which is trusting his hands and trying to square up pitches.

Updating previous items, the San Diego Padres will activate SP Clayton Richard (illness) from the 15-day disabled list on Monday, May 27, and start him against the Seattle Mariners. Richard originally went on the 15-day DL on May 5 with an intestinal virus after going 0-4 with an 8.54 ERA, but he remained on the shelf while working on mechanics in the minor leagues.

Colorado Rockies SP Roy Oswalt allowed three runs, four hits, three walks and three strikeouts in five innings in a minor-league appearance for Double-A Tulsa Friday, May 24. He likely has three more minor-league appearances to prove himself.

The New York Yankees activated SP Ivan Nova (triceps) from the 15-day disabled list Friday, May 24, but he will be sent to the bullpen with SP David Phelps locked into the rotation for the time being. SP Vidal Nuno is starting against the Tampa Bay Rays Saturday, May 25. Nova has struggled in his four starts this year, going 1-1 with a 6.28 ERA. "I'm not a bullpen pitcher. I never have been a bullpen guy. But if that's the role they got for me right now, I gotta do the best that I can do. I'm not thinking like I'm going to be in the bullpen for the rest of the year," Nova said. Phelps is 2-2 with a 3.83 ERA in four starts.

Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum doesn't have any intentions of removing SP Edwin Jackson from the starting rotation despite a 1-7 record and a 6.11 ERA this year.
