First Baseman

The Philadelphia Phillies are a little concerned that 1B Ryan Howard's (knee) meniscus issues may be related to his Achilles' injury that he suffered in the playoffs back in 2011. "When you look at the meniscus, there's a little piece of it that we're concerned about," trainer Scott Sheridan said. "There's certain tests that make it look like he has a meniscus tear, and that's not as clear cut. If you did an MRI on all of it and you find these changes in the meniscus, the question is is that what's really causing the symptoms?" Howard is hitting .245 with six home runs and 22 RBIs in 41 games, and his .713 OPS is the lowest mark of his career.

1B | Ike Davis | New York Mets | Fantasy
New York Mets struggling 1B Ike Davis was dropped to sixth in the lineup Monday, May 20, after his week-long trial in the cleanup spot was up. 2B Daniel Murphy is remaining in the leadoff spot against the Cincinnati Reds. Murphy hit the go-ahead home run in the leadoff spot for the first time this year Sunday, May 19. Murphy has an eight-game hitting streak. Davis went 1-for-24 in six games back in the cleanup spot last week. OF Rick Ankiel will hit second for the first time.

1B | Mark Teixeira | New York Yankees | Injury, Fantasy
New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (wrist) went 1-for-2 with a double and a walk in an extended spring game Monday, May 20. However, the team is being extremely cautious with Teixeira's rehab. "Until (Teixeira) is actually rehabbing in games...we'll hold our breath for a while, and then he'll go through spring training. If that goes fine, then I'll believe at we're OK. But prior to that, I'm not gonna count my chickens yet," manager Brian Cashman said.


Second Baseman

Los Angeles Dodgers INF/OF Jerry Hairston Jr. (knee) is dealing with tendonitis in his knee.

Shortstop

SS | Jurickson Profar | Texas Rangers | Injury, Fantasy
Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington said INFs Jurickson Profar and Leury Garcia will split time at second base with 2B Ian Kinsler (intercostal) on the disabled list. Garcia started at second Sunday, May 19. Profar hit two home runs with Triple-A Round Rock Saturday, May 18, to extend his hitting streak to eight games. He had 14 hits in his last 33 at-bats with six runs, two doubles, three home runs and eight RBIs. Profar is likely to go back to the minors when Kinsler returns, because the team wants him playing every day. Manager Ron Washington said Kinsler could be out only five to six days.

New York Yankees SP Ivan Nova (biceps) is throwing an extended spring training game Monday, May 20, and he could be activated from the disabled list after that. SS Eduardo Nunez (rib cage) is "ten days away for us to think about New York," general manager Brian Cashman said. SP Michael Pineda (shoulder) threw in an extended spring game Saturday, May 18, and received strong reviews during the 51-pitch outing. The team is hoping he'll make two more starts Thursday, May 23, and May 28, before beginning an official rehab assignment.


Third Baseman

St. Louis Cardinals 3B David Freese (hand) said he can hit and throw without much issue after getting three stiches in his hand. Freese is available to come off the bench.

3B | Michael Young | Philadelphia Phillies | Injury, Fantasy
Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard (knee) was diagnosed with a change in the meniscus in his knee and inflammation Monday, May 20, and he's listed as day-to-day. He received an injection in his knee Sunday, May 19. Galvis will become an NL-only infield target if Howard needs to go on the disabled list.

New York Yankees 3B Kevin Youkilis (back) continued to take on-field batting practice Monday, May 20, and he also took grounders at third base and made throws to first and second base.

New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez (hip) started his third week of on-field rehab with defensive drills and hitting in the cages Monday, May 20. H fielded grounders and took 25 swings in batting practice in an indoor cage. He also ran from foul pole to foul pole four times.


Catcher

The Baltimore Orioles signed free-agent C Ronny Paulino (Mariners) to a minor league deal Monday, May 20.

C | A.J. Pierzynski | Texas Rangers | Fantasy
Texas Rangers C A.J. Pierzynski will remain the primary catcher when he returns to the team this week, even though C Geovany Soto had five hits in 12 at-bats with two home runs and four RBIs with regular playing time. Soto will return to backup duties, and he'll start one or two times a week.

C | Chris Stewart | New York Yankees | Injury, Fantasy
New York Yankees C Chris Stewart (groin) took some soft toss Monday, May 20, and he felt OK. Stewart is still available in an emergency with C Austin Romine starting against the Baltimore Orioles.

The Miami Marlins placed OF Matt Diaz (knee) on the 15-day disabled list with a left knee bone bruise Monday, May 20, and recalled OF Jordan Brown from Triple-A New Orleans. Diaz was hitting only .167 (3-for-18) in 10 games this year. Brown can play first base and left field, but he last played in the majors in 2010. Brown was batting .261 with one homer and 12 RBIs in 37 games for New Orleans.

OF | Anthony Gose | Toronto Blue Jays | Fantasy
Toronto Blue Jays OF Anthony Gose could be used as a defensive replacement late in games, and manager John Gibbons wasn't sure if Gose will be a short- or long-term addition to the team. Gose was hitting only .227 with two home runs and five stolen bases at Triple-A Buffalo. He hit .223 in 56 games with the Blue Jays last year.

I definitely feel like I can locate. I feel like my velocity's down, and I definitely need to generate more power." He topped out at 87 mph, and his fastball was consistently 84-86 mph.

"We're going to use everybody," he said, mentioning Cishek, Chad Qualls and Mike Dunn by name. Qualls was warming up Monday when Miami was holding a 2-1 lead in the eighth inning but was not needed after Miami scored three runs. Left-handed bats are hitting .333 versus Cishek, while right-handed hitters are hitting just .111.

Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost said he's looking to "mix and match" different relievers in the eighth inning to give RP Kelvin Herrera a chance to pitch in lower-leverage situations.
