First Baseman

1B | Paul Goldschmidt | Arizona Diamondbacks | Fantasy
The Arizona Diamondbacks are talking to 1B Paul Goldschmidt about a multi-year extension.

1B | Nick Evans | free agent | Transaction, Free Agents
The Los Angeles Dodgers released INF Nick Evans Monday, March 18.

1B | Adam Lind | Toronto Blue Jays | Fantasy
Toronto Blue Jays 1B Adam Lind, who is hitting well this spring, said he dropped 10 pounds in the offseason and started doing yoga. "I think maybe it's given me more bat speed because my muscles are a little longer, more flexible," he said. "I'm not saying if you want to hit, you've got to do yoga. I didn't do it for hitting." Lind said he hasn't had any problems with his back while hitting .424 with a .488 on-base percentage in camp. Manager John Gibbons will give Lind a chance to prove he can be the everyday designated hitter, but if he struggles against lefties again, Gibbons has plenty of other options.

1B | Mark Teixeira | New York Yankees | Injury, Fantasy
The New York Yankees think there is a 70 percent chance that 1B Mark Teixeira (wrist) will not need to have season-ending surgery to fix a torn tendon sheath in his right wrist. The team will now be extra cautious with his rehab and return to the lineup. "This is one of those things, I can't come back too early," Teixeira said. "Unfortunately, if I try to play too early, we could miss the whole season, and we don't want that. I don't know if it's going to be middle of May, beginning of May, beginning of June. I don't know when it is, but I know that there's a whole bunch of season left - and the time that really matters is the playoffs."

Second Baseman

2B | Logan Forsythe | San Diego Padres | Injury, Fantasy
San Diego Padres 2B Logan Forsythe (foot) returned to full workouts several days, and he expects to be back in the lineup before the weekend. He has been sidelined since March 8 due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot.

2B | Cord Phelps | Cleveland Indians | Fantasy
Cleveland Indians 3B Cord Phelps is impressing the team after hitting .306 with two home runs and four RBIs in 17 spring games. The team is getting him some work at first base in camp. "Cord's had a great camp," general manager Chris Antonetti said. "Offensively, he's swung the bat as well as probably anybody in camp. And I think he's a little bit more relaxed. I don't want to speak for Cord, but he's got a great energy about him. He's tried to work all over the diamond and really embrace that opportunity."

2B | Luis Hernandez | Cleveland Indians | Transaction,
The Cleveland Indians optioned SS Juan Diaz to Triple-A Columbus and reassigned OFs Cedric Hunter and Matt Carson, Ps Matt Langwell, Preston Guilmet and Joe Martinez, Cs Brian Jeroloman and Omir Santos and INF Luis Hernandez to minor league camp Monday, March 18.

2B | Jason Kipnis | Cleveland Indians | Fantasy
The Cleveland Indians are discussing contract extensions for 2B Jason Kipnis and OF Michael Brantley. Brantley's long-term value is expected to be lower with his move from center field to left field, which could make the negotiations difficult.

2B | Dustin Ackley | Seattle Mariners | Fantasy
Seattle Mariners 2B Dustin Ackley could hit seventh or eighth in the lineup to start the year. Ackley is hitting .292 this spring but is still getting used to the timing of his swing changes this offseason. He has just one extra-base hit in camp and hasn't squared the ball up that much.

2B | Jedd Gyorko | San Diego Padres | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, San Diego Padres 3B Chase Headley (thumb) could miss opening day after jamming his thumb trying to break up a double play Sunday, March 17. Headley will undergo X-rays and other various tests. 2Bs Logan Forsythe (foot) and Jedd Gyorko are options for third base if Headley misses significant time. However, Forsythe hasn't played since March 7 due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot. He's close to returning, though, and did on-field drills Sunday.

Shortstop

SS | Derek Jeter | New York Yankees | Injury, Fantasy
New York Yankees SS Derek Jeter (ankle) could serve as the designated hitter on Opening Day.

SS | Hanley Ramirez | Los Angeles Dodgers | Fantasy
Los Angeles Dodgers SS Hanley Ramirez has swatted two home runs while playing for Team Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic, accounting for two of his three hits. However, manager Don Mattingly isn't concerned that Ramirez has fallen back into a big-swing mentality. "I've only seen a couple of at-bats, but he's got a sacrifice fly and three walks in another game," Mattingly said Monday, March 18. "That tells me he's doing what he talked about, getting strikes. When we saw him here, he seemed really good. He scalded the ball. The home runs don't bother me. The fact that he's walking tells me his approach is staying solid. I saw one at-bat, and his leg kick was actually abbreviated."

SS | Justin Sellers | Los Angeles Dodgers | Injury, Fantasy
Los Angeles Dodgers SS Justin Sellers (ankle) remains sidelined due to a sprained ankle suffered Thursday, March 14. It is uncertain when the reserve will return.

SS | Bobby Crosby | free agent | Transaction, Free Agents, Fantasy

3B | Nick Castellanos | Detroit Tigers | Transaction
The Detroit Tigers optioned INF Hernan Perez to Double-A Erie and P Jose A. Ortega, C Bryan Holaday and SP Duane Below to Triple-A Toledo. 3B Nick Castellanos, OF Tyler Collins, INF Argenis Diaz and P Trevor Bell were reassigned to minor league camp.

3B | Juan Francisco | Atlanta Braves | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
There are some lingering concerns about Atlanta Braves 3B Juan Francisco and his inability to consistently hit offspeed pitches and left-handed pitchers. However, he has homered in three of his past four spring games, strengthening his bid for the starting third base job to start the season. However, manager Fredi Gonzalez said Monday, March 18, that it is still too early to declare a winner in the battle with 3B Chris D. Johnson.

3B | Kevin Youkilis | New York Yankees | Fantasy
New York Yankees 3B Kevin Youkilis has been working with hitting coach Kevin Long to make adjustments with his stance, and his new approach has shown results in the past week with several extra-base hits. He has also been trying out a new grip with his batting stance.

3B | Trevor Plouffe | Minnesota Twins | Injury, Fantasy
Minnesota Twins 3B Trevor Plouffe (calf) is expected to play in a minor league game Wednesday, March 20, and he'll be the designated hitter.

3B | Pablo Sandoval | San Francisco Giants | Injury, Fantasy
San Francisco Giants 3B Pablo Sandoval (elbow) is day-to-day after feeling numbness in his fingers from right elbow pain Sunday, March 17. He'll receive further treatment, but the team doesn't think the injury is serious.

3B | David Wright | New York Mets | Injury, Fantasy
New York Mets 3B David Wright (intercostal) received a cortisone injection Friday, March 15, and he said he's still having pain when he sleeps, but the discomfort isn't as bad. He thinks he won't need as many at-bats to be ready for the regular season after playing in the World Baseball Classic.

C | John Buck | New York Mets | Fantasy
New York Mets C John Buck (illness) was scratched from the lineup with an illness Monday, March 18.

C | Derek Norris | Oakland Athletics | Fantasy
Oakland Athletics manager Bob Melvin said it won't be a strict platoon between Cs Derek Norris and John Jaso. Norris could also play against right-handed pitchers, and Melvin said he will ride the hot hand.

C | Chris Snyder | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Fantasy
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim C Chris Snyder can request his release if he's not on the major league roster by opening day.

C | Hank Conger | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Transaction, Fantasy
The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim signed C Chris Snyder (Nationals) to a minor league contract Monday, March 18. "We want catching depth; we're looking to provide the staff with as many options as we can. Obviously, Chris comes in on a minor league contract, so he's going to have to compete for a spot. John Hester, Luke Carlin and Hank Conger, all of them, still have an opportunity to win that spot, as does Chris," general manager Jerry Dipoto said.

C | Travis d'Arnaud | New York Mets | Fantasy
The New York Mets still plan to have C Travis d'Arnaud start the year in the minors.

OF | Justin Upton | Atlanta Braves | Fantasy
Atlanta Braves OF Justin Upton smacked two home runs in the Grapefruit League spring game Monday, March 18, against the Philadelphia Phillies, showing improvement after working with hitting coach Greg Walker. "Upton and (Walker) sat back about four or five days ago and did some tinkering and it looks like it paid off," manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "I know they were talking about a little different bat angle. He's been locked in."

OF | Brennan Boesch | New York Yankees | Fantasy
The New York Yankees hope OF Brennan Boesch can regain the form which made him fifth in American League Rookie of the Year voting in 2010.

OF | Carlos Quentin | San Diego Padres | Injury, Fantasy
San Diego Padres OF Carlos Quentin (knee) has been limited to just one of the team's first 25 major league exhibitions due to "mild discomfort" in his surgically repaired right knee. However, he has hit and run the bases in minor league games over the past two days, and the team expects him to be ready for the opener.

OF | James Darnell | San Diego Padres | Injury, Fantasy
San Diego Padres OF James Darnell (oblique) might have been an option to replace the injured 3B Chase Headley (thumb), but Darnell might miss another two weeks due to a strained left oblique muscle. He has not played since March 11.

OF | Carl Crawford | Los Angeles Dodgers | Injury, Fantasy
Los Angeles Dodgers OF Carl Crawford (elbow) had his first two hits and two RBI of the spring Monday, March 18, but that isn't what excited manager Don Mattingly. "Actually - that part was good to see, getting a couple of hits under his belt - but even better was his throwing," Mattingly said. "(Vice president of medical services Stan Conte) was working on cut(offs), and he had a lot on the ball. That's really positive."

OF | Tony Gwynn Jr. | Los Angeles Dodgers | Transaction, Fantasy
The Los Angeles Dodgers reassigned C Wilkin Castillo and OF Tony Gwynn Jr. to their minor-league camp Monday, March 18.

OF | Shane Victorino | Boston Red Sox | Fantasy

OF | Franklin Gutierrez | Seattle Mariners | Injury, Fantasy
Seattle Mariners OF Franklin Gutierrez (legs) is not in the lineup Monday, March 18, and he's unlikely to play in back-to-back games until next week.

OF | Christian Yelich | Miami Marlins | Fantasy
Miami Marlins OF Christian Yelich has a team-leading four home runs and 12 RBIs while hitting .359 with a 1.251 OPS this spring. He will start the year at Double-A Jacksonville, but he's tempting the organization with his talent. "He's just a natural-born hitter," hitting coach Tino Martinez said. "It doesn't matter if he's facing rookies or guys who've played six or eight years. He knows what he's doing and has a great game plan up there. There's nothing fancy about him. He just hits." He needs to clean up his throwing motion, as he tends to throw across his body frequently.

SP | Julio Teheran | Atlanta Braves | Fantasy,
The Atlanta Braves are impressed with SP Julio Teheran's modified repertoire this season, as he relies more on sinkers and an improved breaking pitch instead of the fastball-changeup mix he used in the minor leagues. Teheran is second in the Grapefruit League in strikeouts (25), is tied for first in innings (20) and is fourth in ERA (1.35). "He's really pounding the strike zone, and his two-seamer has really looked good," said SP Tim Hudson. "That's something he's been working on. He's using it to both sides of the plate. I think that's a great pitch for him because he doesn't have to be so precise with it it's a contact pitch."

SP | Matt Harvey | New York Mets | Fantasy,
New York Mets SP Matt Harvey, who allowed six hits and two runs in 5 1/3 innings Monday, March 18, while striking out six and walking one, was happy with his curveball. "I was really happy about my curveball," Harvey said. "Unfortunately, I gave up too many hits in my mind, but overall I'm healthy and feeling good. The biggest thing from last year was not having my curveball. I threw a lot of good ones 0-0 (today) and was able to throw it in the dirt when I needed to. That's a big pitch for me. Having that back is definitely a big plus for me." Harvey is also focused on inducing ground balls to limit his pitch total and enabling him to pitch deeper into games.

SP | Chad Billingsley | Los Angeles Dodgers | Injury, Fantasy,
Los Angeles Dodgers SP Chad Billingsley (finger) bruised the index finger on his throwing hand during a bunting drill last Friday, and he may miss his start Tuesday, March 19. He's listed as day-to-day after X-rays were negative.

SP | Zack Greinke | Los Angeles Dodgers | Injury, Fantasy,
Los Angeles Dodgers SP Zack Greinke (elbow) felt fine after throwing Sunday, March 17, but he's expected to have his first regular season start pushed back by at least a few days and possibly longer. Greinke has thrown in just two spring games for a total of five innings. He's scheduled to throw again Wednesday, March 20, possibly in a simulated game against minor leaguers. Greinke could pitch March 25 in a spring game, which would put him on track to make his season debut April 5.

SP | Vance Worley | Minnesota Twins | Fantasy,

SP | Chris Carpenter | St. Louis Cardinals | Injury, Fantasy,
St. Louis Cardinals SP Chris Carpenter (shoulder) doesn't think he can return to pitch after his latest setback. "There has been no change," Carpenter said. I was planning on playing, on being a part of this team and make the choice at the end of the year whether I wanted to keep playing or not." He still has numbness in his shoulder at times, and he said he will not go through another surgery. Carpenter will seek more medical advice when he returns home to St. Louis.
