Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1B Albert Pujols (knee) said he isn't 100 percent while running, but he doesn't feel like he needs to be 100 percent to play in Cactus League games. He has yet to run the bases but has been able to test himself by sprinting. "If opening day had been two weeks ago, then yes, I would've been frustrated," Pujols said of his time spent recovering. "I don't even like to use the word 'frustrated,' because this is just a game. I made up my mind coming down that I knew it was going to be a little bit before I got into games."

Second Baseman

2B | Dan Uggla | Atlanta Braves | Injury, Fantasy
Atlanta Braves 2B Dan Uggla (neck) said Tuesday, March 5, that he was fine after being hit in the back of the neck by a pitch in a Grapefruit League spring game earlier in the day. Uggla said he had a "sensation" on his neck, but there were no apparent cuts or contusions.

2B | Chris Getz | Kansas City Royals | Fantasy
The Kansas City Royals are expected to take the decision on the starting second base spot between 2Bs Chris Getz and Johnny Giavotella down to the wire this spring, and the loser of the competition is expected to be sent to Triple-A Omaha. Giavotella needs to prove he can hit at the major league level in order to win a job now that his defense has improved. Getz is the better defensive player, and he's been working with hitting coaches Jack Maloof and Andrew David on a new batting stance. Getz's goal is to add significant pop at the plate. "Probably from an average eye," Getz said, "it is kind of a drastic change. Really, I'm just getting into a hitting position quicker than what I was doing before."

SS | Derek Jeter | New York Yankees | Injury, Fantasy

"It's kind of a non-issue now," manager Dale Sveum said. "Because we have the luxury to do it, we're going to make sure he's completely healthy, even though he's completely healthy now. He'll get plenty of playing time going into the season so there's no reason to rush it."

3B | Ryan Zimmerman | Washington Nationals | Injury, Fantasy

3B | Lonnie Chisenhall | Cleveland Indians | Fantasy
Cleveland Indians 3B Lonnie Chisenhall is hitting .471 (8-for-17) with two home runs and eight RBIs in seven spring games and is feeling great at the plate as he competes for a roster spot. "It's early. I have less than 20 at-bats," Chisenhall said. "But I'm happy with where I am right now. I feel comfortable at the plate. Every now and then, I feel a little rusty up there on certain pitches and things like that, but I feel good so far."

3B | Ian Stewart | Chicago Cubs | Injury, Fantasy
Chicago Cubs 3B Ian Stewart (quadriceps) took 15 light ground balls, hit in the cages and did some jogging Tuesday, March 5. However, manager Dale Sveum is wondering if Stewart has enough time to prove that he belongs on the roster this spring. "I'd be lying if I said there wasn't a big question, because there just aren't that many at-bats (once he returns)" Sveum said. "You have to be very productive in those at-bats. Valbuena has been playing and doing a really good job."

3B | Aramis Ramirez | Milwaukee Brewers | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, Milwaukee Brewers 3B Aramis Ramirez (knee) will miss seven to 10 days with a sprained left knee. An MRI revealed no structural damage.

Cincinnati Reds C Ryan Hanigan (oblique) is out at least a week and as a result, Cs Devin Mesoraco and Miguel Olivo will receive more repetitions. "Mesoraco is getting better - receiving, throwing, hitting. There is a lot that a catcher has to think about," said manager Dusty Baker. "We'd like some more offensive output from our catchers, which we were accustomed to with Ramon Hernandez and Hanigan."

C | Jason Hagerty | San Diego Padres | Transaction
The San Diego Padres reassigned C Jason Hagerty to minor league camp Tuesday, March 5.

C | Russell Martin | Pittsburgh Pirates | Injury, Fantasy

The Boston Red Sox continue to give OF Mitch Maier a long look in center field, as he tries to win a spot as a backup outfielder.

OF | Matt Kemp | Los Angeles Dodgers | Injury, Fantasy

OF | Michael Brantley | Cleveland Indians | Injury, Fantasy
Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley (forearm) has resumed baseball drills other than batting practice, and he might be able to play in games this weekend. "I just want to make sure that the wound heals correctly," Brantley said. "It's healing great so far - no setbacks. I'm right on schedule where I need to be. Once the stitches come out, I'll be able to do all baseball activities."

OF | Colby Rasmus | Toronto Blue Jays | Injury, Fantasy
Toronto Blue Jays OF Colby Rasmus (shoulder) won't play until at least Thursday, March 7, due to a sore right shoulder. His injury is considered minor after structural damage has been ruled out.

OF | Juan Rivera | New York Yankees | Fantasy
New York Yankees OF Juan Rivera and 1B Dan Johnson are possible replacements at first base while 1B Mark Teixeira (wrist) heals.

OF | Alfonso Soriano | Chicago Cubs | Fantasy
Chicago Cubs OF Alfonso Soriano has worked hard in the offseason to make sure his legs and lower body are in shape for the grueling season, especially as he gets older. "I'm 37, but I feel better with age," Soriano said. "If I work, my body feels better and my brain feels better, too. Before I didn't work that much but now that I'm older, I need to work to keep my body in shape and my body warm. I think that makes me more confident in myself." Soriano feels healthy this spring, although he's been dealing with a tight left calf, but he is realistic and doesn't want to attempt to play in all 162 games.

OF | Darin Mastroianni | Minnesota Twins | Injury, Fantasy
Minnesota Twins OF Darin Mastroianni (hamstring) will not play in a split-squad game Thursday, March 7, but he could return this weekend. OF | Darin Ruf | Philadelphia Phillies | Fantasy
Philadelphia Phillies OF Darin Ruf struck out three times in an exhibition game against the Dominican Republic Tuesday, March 5, and he also continued to struggle with his defense in the outfield. Ruf is currently 3-for-23 with one extra-base hit this spring. "That's probably got something to do with his hitting," manager Charlie Manuel said. "He's trying too hard right now and things are not going good for him. He'll be all right. He is going to get some more hits. He's fine. He's not going to go his whole life with all collars." OFs John Mayberry Jr. and Laynce Nix are an alternative to Ruf in left field to start the season.

OF | Jackie Bradley | Boston Red Sox | Fantasy
Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell said OF Jackie Bradley is likely to start the year in the minors.

OF | Will Venable | San Diego Padres | Fantasy
San Diego Padres OF Will Venable finally found an acceptable approach to his swing after entrusting hitting coach Phil Plantier with fixing his mechanics, and Venable went on to post career highs in hits (110), games (148), doubles (26), triples (eight), runs (62) and at-bats (417). Plantier and assistant hitting coach Alonzo Powell eliminated Venable's double toe tap with the front foot in his stride. He also kept his bat much more quiet instead of waving it back and forth. "I'm trying to build on the improvements I made with the swing last year and not changing a whole lot. I want to continue to be natural and let my ability take over and stay out of the way as far as tinkering with too much mechanical stuff," Venable said.

OF | Cody Ross | Arizona Diamondbacks | Injury, Fantasy
Arizona Diamondbacks OF Cody Ross' (leg) MRI exam revealed a lower left leg strain, and he'll miss two to three weeks. He will not run, hit or throw during that time.

SP | Josh Beckett | Los Angeles Dodgers | Fantasy,
Los Angeles Dodgers SP Josh Beckett has had his next start moved up a day and switched to a minor-league game so he can work on mechanics without impacting the big league club.

SP | Hyun-Jin Ryu | Los Angeles Dodgers | Fantasy,
Los Angeles Dodgers SP Hyun-Jin Ryu told the team's staff that he never threw bullpen sessions in Korea and didn't plan to in the major leagues. There seems to be general concern within the organization about Ryu's willingness to accept advice as he makes the transition from Korea to the majors, where the competition is tougher with fewer days of rest and a season one month longer than Korea.

SP | Christian Friedrich | Colorado Rockies | Injury, Fantasy,
Colorado Rockies SP Christian Friedrich (back) threw his third bullpen session of the spring Tuesday, March 5, as he works his way back from a stress fracture in his back that cut his season short last year. He was scheduled for 50 pitches with rest in between the first 25 throws. Friedrich might pitch in a simulated game Friday, March 8. "The arm's been healthy the whole time. It's just making sure we're taking it step-by-step, which is good and cautious, but my patience is tested," he said.

SP | Carlos Carrasco | Cleveland Indians | Injury, Fantasy,
Cleveland Indians SP Carlos Carrasco (head), who was hit in the side of the head by a comebacker Monday, March 4, has passed all of his concussion tests. "He's fine," manager Terry Francona said. "The trainers checked with him last night and checked with him again this morning. He exhibited no signs (of a concussion)."

SP | J.A. Happ | Toronto Blue Jays | Fantasy,
Toronto Blue Jays SP J.A. Happ is still preparing as a starter this spring despite the fact that the team's rotation is currently full. It's possible that Happ will begin the year in the rotation for Triple-A Buffalo. He's also in the mix for a spot in the bullpen.

SP | Aroldis Chapman | Cincinnati Reds | Fantasy,
Cincinnati Reds SPs Mike Leake and Aroldis Chapman both pitched against regulars from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Tuesday, March 5, and Leake looked better. Leake tossed three scoreless innings and gave up four hits while Chapman made his way through 24 pitches in his first inning and gave up a home run and two hits. However, Chapman had good command of his breaking pitches during the outing.

SP | Jair Jurrjens | Baltimore Orioles | Fantasy,
Baltimore Orioles SP Jair Jurrjens saw some improvement in his outing Tuesday, March 5, as he tries to correct his mechanics after dealing with knee issues the past few seasons. "He's got a ways to go from what he was before he had the (right) knee problems. He's getting closer, but I don't think he's anywhere near what he's going to be. He's starting to get through some pitches a little better. You're seeing a little more finish down in the strike zone when he's right," pitching coach Rick Adair said. Jurrjens was happy with the command of his breaking pitches. He's still in the running for a spot in the starting rotation.

SP | CC Sabathia | New York Yankees | Injury, Fantasy,
New York Yankees SS CC Sabathia (elbow) threw two innings Tuesday, March 5, and feels as though he's right on schedule to be ready for opening day. He could appear in his first spring game Sunday, March 10.

SP | Phil Hughes | New York Yankees | Injury, Fantasy,
New York Yankees SP Phil Hughes (back) worked out lightly Tuesday, March 5, and will throw long toss Wednesday, March 6, but said he won't try to rush things. "This rehab is being taken slowly right now," Hughes said. "I want to make sure I'm 100 percent going forward and not 95 percent and risk the chance of this coming up again and be on the shelf for two weeks in April and then I have to worry about coming back and rehab starts and all that."

SP | Dustin McGowan | Toronto Blue Jays | Injury, Fantasy,
Toronto Blue Jays SP Dustin McGowan (shoulder) threw off a mound Tuesday, March 5, for the first time in almost a year and a half and looks to be making progress. He threw roughly 20 pitches and his velocity was rather impressive for his first time out, with hitting coach Pete Walker estimating he was hitting mid- to upper-80s while mixing in some changeups. McGowan's rehab schedule is fluid, and the team will likely take it day-to-day with him. The Blue Jays won't rule him out for a spot in the bullpen, but he's a long shot to be ready by opening day.

SP | Franklin Morales | Boston Red Sox | Injury, Fantasy,
Boston Red Sox SP Franklin Morales (back) isn't close to pitching off a mound, but he exercised some Tuesday, March 5. "We don't have a date marked on the calendar of when he's going to get back on the mound, even for a bullpen session, let alone a game," manager John Farrell.

SP | Matt Purke | Washington Nationals | Transaction,
The Washington Nationals optioned SP Matt Purke to Single-A Hagerstown Tuesday, March 5.

SP | Lucas Harrell | Houston Astros | Fantasy,
Houston Astros SP Lucas Harrell has been trying to perfect his curveball this spring. He thinks improving the pitch will help him reduce his pitch counts and work deeper into games. "It's usually my fourth-best pitch," he said. "But I want to make it one of my strengths. I threw a lot down in the bullpen and today I wanted to throw it in situations I wouldn't get hurt. I threw it a couple of times today for a first-pitch strike."

SP | Erik Bedard | Houston Astros | Injury, Fantasy,
Houston Astros SP Erik Bedard (gluteus) has been limited to just two spring innings due to a strained gluteal muscle, but manager Bo Porter hopes he'll be back pitching in games soon.

SP | Zack Greinke | Los Angeles Dodgers | Injury, Fantasy,
Los Angeles Dodgers SP Zack Greinke (forearm) was limited Sunday, March 3, due to minor forearm stiffness, and he said it's something he experiences every spring. He will start a split-squad game against Team Mexico Wednesday March 6.

RP | Casey Janssen | Toronto Blue Jays | Injury, Fantasy,
Toronto Blue Jays RP Casey Janssen (shoulder) felt fine after throwing off a mound Sunday, March 3, throwing 20 pitches at the minor league complex. "He felt good in that side session, felt good yesterday and feels good again today," pitching coach Pete Walker said of Janssen, who is recovering from offseason shoulder surgery. "We're going to take a look at his schedule from here on out and see where he is. He's day to day right now. There could be adjustments daily."

Chicago Cubs RP Carlos Marmol has a good chance to be traded before the start of the season, according to ESPNChicago.com's Bruce Levine. Several teams, including the Detroit Tigers, are looking intently at Marmol on the trade market, according to league sources. He can veto a trade to four West Coast teams, but a source said Marmol is likely to waive that clause if the team were a contender. RP Kyuji Fujikawa would likely step in as the closer if Marmol were dealt.

RP | Eric O'Flaherty | Atlanta Braves | Injury, Fantasy,
Atlanta Braves RPs Jordan Walden (back) and Eric O'Flaherty (groin) have only made one spring outing between the two of them. O'Flaherty is being held out as more of a precaution and Walden hasn't pitched since Feb. 23 due to a back strain. Both players are expected to have time to be ready for opening day.
