"I think he was trying to hit without his lower body the past couple of seasons. He came to spring training in terrific physical condition. He's a guy who has shown us he can hit. He has good discipline. He was a guy who was drafted because of his power, so I think it's important that he regained his stroke."

1B | Albert Pujols | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Injury, Fantasy

The Milwaukee Brewers may not pursue free-agent 1B Carlos Lee (Marlins) because they do not think he would be willing to be a fill-in starter until 1B Corey Hart (knee) returns.

1B | Mat Gamel | Milwaukee Brewers | Injury, Fantasy

2B | Robinson Cano | New York Yankees | Fantasy

"I grew up in the Yankees system and being around all those guys. … I love New York. Why not? It's just a matter of time. I have another year, so I just want to go out there and perform, not think about anything or put any pressure on my mind."

2B | Dustin Ackley | Seattle Mariners | Fantasy
Seattle Mariners 2B Dustin Ackley is now starting with his shoulders almost facing the pitcher, and he slides them back to be parallel with the plate when a pitch is in motion. "It just puts me in good hitting positions," he said. "Last year, with the old stance I had, there was no separation, my hands, and everything. I worked on it a lot this offseason just to get that feel of maybe what it used to feel like, as opposed to last year, when I didn't really know what was going on. I think that was important for me this offseason."

Seattle Mariners SS Brendan Ryan simplified his swing this offseason and has moved his hands up and out away from his body before his swing. "I want to get my hands away from me, away from my body. I don't want to get myself tied. I can kind of get myself tied up being so close to my body. (Michael) Morse actually does it too. He's got his hands way out from his body. And then they come back and get in a natural hitting position. As long as I'm in a good hitting position, I will stay with it. Dave (Hansen) likes where it's at. We'll stay with that. It feels good," Ryan said.

SS | Brandon Hicks | New York Mets | Fantasy,
The New York Mets are expected to shop 2B Justin Turner, according to a source close to the team's plans. Turner could also open the season with Triple-A Las Vegas if he isn't dealt since he has an option remaining. The Mets may want to get INFs Brandon Hicks and Omar Quintanilla on the roster as infielders. INF Zach Lutz could also sneak onto the roster if Turner is dealt. RP Jeremy Hefner appears to be too valuable to risk on waivers, so he looks to be a lock for the 40-man roster.

He said he's around two weeks behind schedule but still aims to be ready by opening day. Jeter is not yet allowed to run on grass.

SS | Asdrubal Cabrera | Cleveland Indians | Fantasy
Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona likes the idea of using a switch hitter behind OF Michael Bourn in the No. 2 spot in the lineup, making SS Asdrubal Cabrera a candidate to hit there.

SS | Stephen Drew | Boston Red Sox | Injury, Fantasy

SS | Yunel Escobar | Tampa Bay Rays | Fantasy
Tampa Bay Rays SS Yunel Escobar said he's a changed man this year after displaying a homophobic slur on his eye black in a game Sept. 15 of last season. "He cares. I was surprised last year by what happened. But he's a caring person. He cares for his teammates. He cares for a lot of people. And I'm not just talking about baseball, because he's an awesome baseball player. But away from that, he's an amazing guy," C Jose Molina said.

Cincinnati Reds 3B Todd Frazier worked on his agility this offseason to play third base in 2013. "I worked out five days a week, mainly on my footwork at third base," Frazier said. "It's all about reaction, but that first step is really big. I'm working on that a lot here, too."

C | Russell Martin | Pittsburgh Pirates | Fantasy
Pittsburgh Pirates C Russell Martin is likely to be Team Canada's shortstop in this year's World Baseball Classic. Martin was an everyday third baseman in the minor leagues, but he's never played shortstop. "I like to prove people wrong," Martin said. "I'm going to do what I feel like doing. I feel like playing shortstop. It's a selfish move from my part. But it's what I love to do. Sometimes you've got to do what you feel like doing for yourself. And I want to do it."

C | Mike Zunino | Seattle Mariners | Fantasy
Seattle Mariners manager Eric Wedge has been very impressed with the way C Mike Zunino has carried himself in camp. "You can tell already he's a student of the game. I'm very impressed with the way he handles himself catching bullpens and just handling the pitching staff here early on. Fundamentally, he's been very impressive from both the offensive and defensive side," Wedge said.

C | Wilson Ramos | Washington Nationals | Injury, Fantasy
Washington Nationals C Wilson Ramos (knee) caught two bullpen sessions Monday, Feb. 18, and also took a full round of batting practice. Ramos also blocked pitches in the dirt Monday. "I told him he was only going to catch one, but he wants to be on whatever everyone else is doing," manager Davey Johnson said. "He didn't want to be behind. He said the big test for him was blocking balls and how it felt the next day, and he said it felt great. So he's doing a full workload." He won't be put in spring games for the first week of the spring schedule and when he does debut, he'll likely only play a couple of innings.

C | Evan Gattis | Atlanta Braves | Fantasy
Atlanta Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said C Evan Gattis might play first base on a limited basis this spring. Gattis can also play some left field.

C | Brian McCann | Atlanta Braves | Injury, Fantasy

C | Mike Napoli | Boston Red Sox | Fantasy
Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell said he expects 1B Mike Napoli to make a fairly seamless transition from catcher to first base this season. "He's got very soft hands," Farrell said. "Even when you watch him take BP, his movements are smooth. We're confident that he's going to be a very good first baseman."

OF | Alex Rios | Chicago White Sox | Fantasy
Chicago White Sox OF Alex Rios will play for Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic.

OF | Mike Carp | Seattle Mariners | Fantasy

OF | Wil Myers | Tampa Bay Rays | Fantasy
Tampa Bay Rays OF Wil Myers live pitching Monday, Feb. 18, but did not swing at pitches by design. Instead, he used the session to "track" the baseball across the plate. OF | Alfonso Soriano | Chicago Cubs | Fantasy
Chicago Cubs OF Alfonso Soriano said his agent and the team have an understanding of the six or seven teams he would be willing to be traded to if the team wants to move him.

OF | Ben Revere | Philadelphia Phillies | Fantasy
Philadelphia Phillies OF Ben Revere hinted that he's more comfortable hitting atop the lineup, and manager Charlie Manuel seems to agree. Revere has hit leadoff in 130 career games, 87 games in the No. 2 spot and only 12 games at eighth in the order. For the games at the top of the order, Revere has a combined on-base percentage of .325 with 70 stolen bases and a .285 average. There is still a possibility that 3B Michael Young could hit second behind SS Jimmy Rollins, though. The team will use Revere in various spots in the lineup this spring to see where he fits best.

Starting Pitcher

SP | Matt Garza | Chicago Cubs | Injury, Fantasy

SP | Jeremy Hefner | New York Mets | Fantasy,
Although New York Mets SP Jeremy Hefner may start the season at Triple-A since he has one minor league option left, the team has no plans to expose him to waivers or trade him. Hefner, who was acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates last season on waivers, has performed up to expectations for the Mets and he may be a low-cost option in the rotation if need be.

SP | Gerrit Cole | Pittsburgh Pirates | Fantasy,
Pittsburgh Pirates SP Gerrit Cole is working with members of the team's starting rotation, but Cole has not been promised a spot in the rotation much less a role with the team. "We look at guys we may want to match up, so they can watch some other people, see how they go about things, to help with that educational process. That's something we definitely keep in mind with some of our prospects."

SP | David Price | Tampa Bay Rays | Fantasy
Tampa Bay Rays SP David Price said he is feeling as good as he has all spring Monday, Feb. 18. "That's the best I've felt all spring," Price said. "It's funny how that stuff goes. My body felt better today than it has the previous five, six days. It's all a work in progress. I threw strikes today, I hit the mitt. I've got nothing to complain about after today. Everything I was trying to do I was able to accomplish."

SP | Jose Fernandez | Miami Marlins | Fantasy,
Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton was impressed with SP Jose Fernandez during live batting practice sessions Monday, Feb. 18. "He's got a little cut to his fastball, which is always good," Stanton said. "For the guys who throw hard, to have movement helps. The speed already separates them. When they have movement, it just puts them in a whole new category." Fernandez is expected to start the year at Double-A Jacksonville.

SP | Dan Haren | Washington Nationals | Fantasy,
Washington Nationals SP Dan Haren said he started overthrowing last year when he realized that he had lost some velocity on his pitches, which caused him to leave the ball up in the zone.

SP | James Shields | Kansas City Royals | Fantasy,
Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost said SP James Shields will start the team's opening day game this year.

SP | Ricky Romero | Toronto Blue Jays | Fantasy,
Toronto Blue Jays SP Ricky Romero is working on not throwing too hard too soon. In the past, he often was inclined to "fire away right away and kind of get in that game mode" in the early parts of spring training. This year, he's feeling good coming off elbow surgery and "everything is coming out free and easy." The hitters have told Romero that they are seeing good movement and sink on his pitches after a live session. SP Mark Buehrle has become a mentor for Romero, and the two have hit it off so far in camp.

SP | Bud Norris | Houston Astros | Fantasy,
Houston Astros SP Bud Norris (personal) will leave camp for two days due to a death in the family.

SP | Travis Wood | Chicago Cubs | Injury, Fantasy,

SP | Stephen Strasburg | Washington Nationals | Fantasy,
Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg wants to tweak his pitches, particularly his sinker, to break less but fool the hitter even more, and he's working on it in spring bullpen sessions. The big breaks in some of his pitchers might make it easier for opposing hitters to differentiate between the pitches. "A hitter can see it," Strasburg said. "Obviously, it looks cooler on TV when you're watching it, when a guy is throwing something that moves like this" Strasburg waved his hand in a sweeping motion "or dropping off. But a hitter can see it a lot earlier. I'm trying to get away from that and get more consistent, tighter pitches that are going to break maybe a little bit less, but sharper and later." Last year, his sinker "ran" more than it sunk, so Strasburg wants the pitch to move on two planes, mostly down with movement down away from a left-handed batter.

SP | Tsuyoshi Wada | Baltimore Orioles | Injury,
Baltimore Orioles RP Tsuyoshi Wada (elbow) threw 20 pitches off a half mound Monday, Feb. 18, and is encouraged by his progress from Tommy John surgery. Wada is not expected to pitch for the team until May or June.

Cleveland Indians RP Matt Capps (shoulder) is on a more gradual throwing program this spring. He has been throwing bullpen sessions every third day.

RP | Sam Freeman | St. Louis Cardinals | Injury, Fantasy,
After left biceps tendonitis shortened his stay in the Arizona Fall League, St. Louis Cardinals P Sam Freeman (arm) was instructed to alter his offseason throwing plans. Freeman picked up a baseball and walked around holding it so he could get used to the feel of the ball in his hand. Freeman did this so he could work on a knuckle curve. "I figured I didn't have anything else to do," Freeman said. "So outside of eating, I would carry a ball around and work on the grip."

RP | Addison Reed | Chicago White Sox | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy,
Chicago White Sox general manager Rick Hahn is confident in CL Addison Reed to open up the season as the ninth-inning pitcher, but Hahn said he wants manager Robin Ventura to have flexibility to use other relievers like RP's Matt Thornton, Jesse Crain and Matt Lindstrom. "Obviously (Reed) established himself last year," Hahn said. "At the same time ... I feel that Robin should have the depth, knock on wood, and alternatives to play the best matchup."

RP | Henry Rodriguez | Washington Nationals | Injury, Fantasy,
Washington Nationals RP Henry Rodriguez (elbow) is "very close" to throwing off a mound after playing long toss Monday, Feb. 18. RP Ryan Mattheus (flu) threw a bullpen session early in the day but was later excused due to flu-like symptoms.

RP | Bruce Rondon | Detroit Tigers | Fantasy,
Detroit Tigers RP Bruce Rondon looked impressive during his first live batting practice session over the weekend, in which he faced prospects and potential roster candidates instead of the team's starting lineup. "He looked good," said 2B Jeff Kobernus, a candidate for a reserve role on the Tigers' Opening Day roster. "His fastball was exploding out of his hand. He had the slider that he threw to me a few times. He kept it down. It was hard to pick up."
