First Baseman

1B | Todd Helton | Colorado Rockies | Fantasy
Colorado Rockies 1B Todd Helton, who said he had red win hours before he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence Wednesday, Feb. 6, is due in court May 20 on charges of DUI and careless driving. Witnesses saw Helton's truck swerve into a median before he pulled into a gas station. His blood-alcohol limit hasn't been released, but police believe it will be above the legal limit.

Second Baseman

2B | Aaron Hill | Arizona Diamondbacks | Transaction, Fantasy
The Arizona Diamondbacks agreed to a three-year, $35 million extension with 2B Aaron Hill.

Shortstop

SS | Asdrubal Cabrera | Cleveland Indians | Fantasy
Several sources believe the Cleveland Indians will attempt to trade SS Asdrubal Cabrera by next winter after the club signed SS Mike Aviles to a two-year deal with an option for a third season.

Third Baseman

3B | Pablo Sandoval | San Francisco Giants | Fantasy
The San Francisco Giants have cleared nine players to take part in the World Baseball Classic, including RP's Sergio Romo, Santiago Casilla, Jeremy Affeldt, Javier Lopez and Jose Mijares, SP Ryan Vogelsong, 3B Pablo Sandoval, OF Angel Pagan and 2B Marco Scutaro.

3B | Zach Lutz | New York Mets | Fantasy
New York Mets OF Zach Lutz is making the transition from third base to the outfield this spring, and he started work on the move with outfield coach Tom Goodwin at the team's spring training complex. Lutz went 1-for-11 in his major league debut last year in seven games but hit .299 with 10 home runs and 35 RBIs in 294 plate appearances at Triple-A Buffalo. 2B Justin Turner will also get a look in the outfield. They will be competing with OFs Marlon Byrd and Andrew Brown.

Catcher

C | Brian McCann | Atlanta Braves | Injury, Fantasy
Atlanta Braves C Brian McCann (shoulder) isn't ready to play with three days until pitchers and catchers report to spring training, and he won't be until his surgically repaired right shoulder is healed from offseason surgery. He hasn't had any setbacks but won't be ready to return until "some point in April." "I'm not close" to being ready, McCann said. "Just started hitting off a tee. I started throwing last week, from 45 feet. Sixty feet this week. I've thrown a total of six times. Next week hopefully at 90 feet, and just go from there. I've got to build my arm strength back up." McCann said his shoulder is feeling good, though. He will become a free agent next winter, and the team will suspend contract talks until then. C Gerald Laird will be the primary backstop until McCann is fully healthy. Doctors will not clear McCann to play in games until April 15, but he'll get at-bats in minor league games before then.

C | Victor Martinez | Detroit Tigers | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, Detroit Tigers C Victor Martinez (knee) is in great shape as he prepares for spring training. "He's in great shape, and he's swinging the bat extremely well. A lot of zip, a lot of pop, it doesn't look like he's lost anything," hitting coach Lloyd McClendon said.

Outfielder

OF | Dayan Viciedo | Chicago White Sox | Fantasy
Chicago White Sox OF Dayan Viciedo has added a leg kick in his swing to help his timing. The team feels he has unreal bat speed and will only get better once he finds his timing.

OF | Jarrod Dyson | Kansas City Royals | Fantasy
Kansas City Royals OF Jarrod Dyson is aiming for a 50-steal season, which he believes could happen if his .247 career batting average goes up in 2013. "I got 30 last year and my numbers weren't even close to what I just said. I just want to do whatever it takes to help this team win," Dyson said.

OF | Luke Scott | Tampa Bay Rays | Fantasy
Tampa Bay Rays OF Luke Scott can make extra money this year based on his performance. He can earn an extra $50,000 for 400 plate appearances, $150,000 for 450, $250,000 for 500 and $300,000 for 550 plate appearances.

OF | Michael Bourn | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
If the New York Mets were to sign free-agent OF Michael Bourn (Braves), it is likely to happen because the league will allow their 11th overall pick to be protected. The Mets have discussed three-year deals and may be willing to go to a fourth year, but they don't appear willing to spend close to $15 million per year. Bourn is more likely to sign for $14-15 million per year than $11-12 million per year, however.

OF | Delmon Young | Philadelphia Phillies | Injury, Fantasy
Philadelphia Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said OF Delmon Young (ankle) will be the only player behind schedule in spring camp, but that could change by the time pitchers and catcher work out next week. "He won't be able to get into real activities probably for a few weeks after we open up, at least," Amaro said. "He might not be able to play in games competitively until the middle of March. We don't know that, but we'll see how he progresses once we see him."

OF | Chris Carter | Houston Astros | Fantasy
Houston Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said the team plans to give OF Chris Carter a "full year's worth" of at-bats this season, with him alternating between first base, left field and designated hitter. "We'll mix-and-match him with Brett Wallace and Carlos Pena," Luhnow said.

Starting Pitcher

SP | Clayton Kershaw | Los Angeles Dodgers | Fantasy,
Los Angeles Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti said the team and SP Clayton Kershaw have "a mutual interest" in working out a long-term contract extension. However, Colletti did not say if the team has started the process of negotiations. Kershaw could be in line to reach a deal worth $200 million after the Seattle Mariners inked SP Felix Hernandez to a seven-year, $175 million deal Thursday, Feb. 7. Kershaw will earn $11 million this year and can become a free agent after the 2014 season.

SP | Joe Saunders | Seattle Mariners | Transaction, Fantasy,
The Seattle Mariners agreed to an undisclosed one-year deal with free-agent SP Joe Saunders (Orioles) Thursday, Feb. 7, according to a source.

SP | Scott Richmond | Korean League | Injury,
Milwaukee Brewers P Nick Bucci has been added to the roster for Team Canada in the World Baseball Classic to replace Korean SP Scott Richmond (knee), who hurt his knee while training.

SP | Dillon Gee | New York Mets | Injury, Fantasy,
New York Mets SP Dillon Gee (shoulder) will have nitroglycerine cream on hand during games this year as a precaution, but he thinks his issues with circulation are past him. He resumed throwing off a mound two weeks ago but he isn't going full speed. Gee doesn't expect any recurrence of his circulation problems after having surgery last year. However, he still has numbness in his fingers in cold weather, which could affect him in New York. "Let's say if it's less than 35 degrees and I'm outside for much more than 30 minutes without gloves on, then my fingers will still go numb," Gee said. "But that's actually getting better, too. I mean, right after the surgery, they would go numb if it was 50 degrees outside. Over time it'll keep getting better, but that's going to take a while. My fingertips were damaged pretty badly because of all the blood clots I've been throwing through all the years. But it's definitely way, way better." He said he's further along in his offseason program than he normally would be.

SP | Johan Santana | New York Mets | Fantasy,
New York Mets manager Terry Collins is aiming to make SP Johan Santana the team's opening day starter this year, if Santana is physically ready to go. Santana would make the start April 1 against the San Diego Padres at home. "No question," Collins said. "He said he feels great, and he said the rest has really made a difference."

SP | Jon Lester | Boston Red Sox | Fantasy,
The Boston Red Sox have not approached SP Jon Lester about a contract extension. Lester can become a free agent after the 2013 season, but he has a team option for 2014.

SP | Felix Hernandez | Seattle Mariners | Transaction, Fantasy,
The Seattle Mariners and SP Felix Hernandez agreed to a seven-year, $175 million contract extension Thursday, Feb. 7, that should be finalized before spring training. The deal makes him the highest paid pitcher in baseball. The deal will pay him an average annual salary of $25 million through the 2019 season.

SP | Adam Wainwright | St. Louis Cardinals | Injury, Fantasy,
St. Louis Cardinals pitching coach Derek Lindquist said none of the starting pitchers coming to camp will be on any restrictions this spring. SP Adam Wainwright threw a bullpen session Thursday, Feb. 7, the fifth or sixth time he's done so this offseason. SP Jaime Garcia (shoulder) threw off flat ground, and he's thrown off a mound five times already in the last few weeks. He'll throw a bullpen session as early as Friday, Feb. 8. "Just based on seeing him throw one time he looks healthy, he's in good shape," Lilliquist said of Garcia. "In talking to him, mentally he's in a good spot. He's excited about the year moving forward and looks to make every start every fifth day." Ps Trevor Rosenthal, Eric Fornataro, Tyler Lyons and Sam Freeman all threw bullpen sessions as well Thursday.

Relief Pitcher

RP | Mark Lowe | Los Angeles Dodgers | Transaction, Free Agents
The Los Angeles Dodgers agreed with free-agent RP Mark Lowe (Rangers) to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training. He'll have a $1.5 million salary if he makes the team and can make a total of $2.1 with incentives.

RP | Daniel Herrera | New York Mets | Injury
New York Mets RP Daniel Herrera (elbow) is expected to be out until at least May following Tommy John surgery last year.

RP | Shawn Kelley | Seattle Mariners | Transaction, Fantasy,
The Seattle Mariners designated RP Shawn Kelley for assignment Thursday, Feb. 7, to make room on the roster for C Kelly Shoppach.

RP | Rich Hill | Cleveland Indians | Transaction,
The Cleveland Indians signed free-agent RP Rich Hill (Red Sox) to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training Thursday, Feb. 7.

RP | Michael Stutes | Philadelphia Phillies | Injury,
Philadelphia Phillies RP Michael Stutes (shoulder) is expected to be 100 percent healthy in spring training, according to general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. Stutes has been throwing bullpens for a while. RP Raul Valdes (knee) is also doing well and will be close to 100 percent healthy.

RP | Mike Adams | Philadelphia Phillies | Injury, Fantasy,
Philadelphia Phillies RP Mike Adams (shoulder) is apparently doing fine after having surgery to fix thoracic outlet syndrome last October, the same injury and surgery that St. Louis Cardinals SP Chris Carpenter (shoulder) dealt with. "We've talked to him. He said he's doing great," general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said. "We'll find out more when he arrives in Clearwater, and I think he'll be arriving there fairly soon. He's been throwing off the mound and he hasn't had any issues. We'll see how far along he is, whether he's going to be behind in spring training or not. We don't think so. But we'll find out once he gets to Clearwater. Right now we don't have any concerns, but we obviously want to make sure that he's all right and progressing properly."

RP | Brandon Lyon | New York Mets | Fantasy,
Updating a previous item, New York Mets RP Brandon Lyon agreed to an undisclosed one-year deal Thursday, Feb. 7, according to a source. He figures to serve in a setup role with RP Bobby Parnell, but he could also become a part-time closer if RP Frank Francisco falters. "I think a lot will depend on what we see over the course of February and March," general manager Sandy Alderson said.
