SS | Cliff Pennington | Arizona Diamondbacks | Fantasy

Third Baseman

3B | Scott Rolen | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
Free-agent 3B Scott Rolen (Reds) has yet to make a decision on his playing status for the 2013 season, but he has told people that if he plays, his first choice is to return to the Cincinnati Reds.

3B | Mike Olt | Texas Rangers | Free Agents, Fantasy,
The Texas Rangers have not revived trade talks for Arizona Diamondbacks OF Justin Upton, with one source saying the two sides have agreed to "move on" after the Seattle Mariners also failed to land the slugger. The Rangers were prepared to offer Arizona a four-player package including 3B Mike Olt, but that was before Upton nixed the trade to Seattle. Ps Martin Perez or Cody Buckel also would have been sent to the D-backs, along with SS Leury Garcia and one other prospect, according to sources. Texas is still waiting to make one more big move this offseason, meaning they are candidates to sign free-agent OF Michael Bourn (Braves) or SP Kyle Lohse (Cardinals).

3B | Mark DeRosa | Toronto Blue Jays | Fantasy
Updating a previous item, Toronto Blue Jays 3B Mark DeRosa will make $775,000 on his one-year deal with the team. The team has a $750,000 option for the 2014 season with a $25,000 buyout.

C | Mike Napoli | Boston Red Sox | Injury, Fantasy
Boston Red Sox C/1B Mike Napoli (hips) said his condition of AVN, or avascular necrosis, was discovered during his physical, but he sees no reason why he won't be healthy this season. "But we think we've got it figured out. We saw a bunch of doctors, got a bunch of opinions, and went from there. I got on medication. There's no reason I shouldn't be healthy and ready to go for Opening Day," Napoli said. His agent, Brian Grieper, said Napoli has had no limitations in his offseason workouts. Avascular necrosis can be treated through medication, rest and exercise if caught early, but later stages of the disease could require surgery. "We don't have a lot of concern about 2013," manager Ben Cherington said. "There's no reason that Mike Napoli won't be our primary first baseman in 2013. There's no reason that won't happen starting Opening Day. It's very important to note that, although this condition is less common in baseball players that some other issues, from all the information that's been gathered, this has been caught very early."

OF | Starling Marte | Pittsburgh Pirates | Fantasy

OF | Delmon Young | Philadelphia Phillies | Fantasy
Philadelphia Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said OF Delmon Young was signed to a one-year contract to play regularly in right field, even though Young hasn't played in right in six seasons. Amaro did not say what Young's signing would do for the other outfielders on the roster.

OF | Shelley Duncan | Tampa Bay Rays | Injury, Transaction, Fantasy,
The Tampa Bay Rays signed free-agent OF Shelley Duncan (Indians) and Ps Jamey Wright (Dodgers), Juan Oviedo (elbow) and Juan Sandoval (Brewers) to minor league deals with invites to spring training Tuesday, Jan. 22. Oviedo will miss most of the season after having Tommy John surgery in September of last year. Oviedo's contract includes a team option for 2014.

OF | Jason Bay | Seattle Mariners | Fantasy
Seattle Mariners OFs Jason Bay and Casper Wells could be the odd-men out of the outfield picture this year with OFs Mike Morse, Michael Saunders and Raul Ibanez seeing most of the playing time. Ibanez could platoon with either Bay or Wells. OF Franklin Gutierrez, who hasn't been able to stay healthy in recent years, could also factor into the decision.

OF | Justin Upton | Arizona Diamondbacks | Fantasy
The San Diego Padres won't be trading for Arizona Diamondbacks OF Justin Upton straight up for 3B Chase Headley, according to an official from one team. The Padres are expected to eventually trade Headley, but they are unlikely to trade him within the division. San Diego could replace Headley with 3B Jedd Gyorko.

OF | Domonic Brown | Philadelphia Phillies | Fantasy
Philadelphia Phillies OF Delmon Young will join an inexperienced outfield picture in 2013 that includes OFs Domonic Brown, Darin Ruf, John Mayberry Jr. and Laynce Nix. Brown figures to win a job outright, but the other spots are likely up for grabs.

SP | Aroldis Chapman | Cincinnati Reds | Fantasy,
Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips, speaking on SiriusXM Sports Tuesday, Jan. 22, said he likes SP Aroldis Chapman better as the team's closer. "Honestly I'm Team Chapman. Whatever he feels like he can do, I let him do. He's that talented. You know, if he goes out there and prepares himself during this offseason and he can show people he can do it, then do it. But if he can't, if he can't prepare himself for it if his mindset isn't where it's supposed to be then he should just stay and be one of the best closers in the game and go out there and do his job, be lights out," Phillips said.

SP | Tim Stauffer | free agent | Injury, Free Agents, Fantasy,
Updating a previous report, free-agent SP Tim Stauffer (elbow) is throwing upwards of 75 feet, and he feels he is only two weeks behind other pitchers in his throwing program heading into spring training. The San Diego Padres could choose to re-sign Stauffer or SP Dustin Moseley (shoulder).

SP | Ross Detwiler | Washington Nationals | Free Agents, Fantasy,
The Washington Nationals, given their good relationship with Scott Boras clients, could wind up signing free-agent SP Kyle Lohse (Cardinals) and pushing SP Ross Detwiler to the bullpen. However, the more likely move would be signing free-agent SP Javier Vazquez (Marlins) to give the team some more depth for the rotation at a lower price.

SP | David Price | Tampa Bay Rays | Fantasy,
The Chicago Cubs recently named former Vanderbilt pitching coach Derek Johnson their minor league pitching coordinator, leading some to believe that Chicago has hopes of landing Tampa Bay Rays SP David Price down the road. Price won't be eligible for free agency until after the 2015 season, but Chicago could decide to trade for him before then. Price and Johnson were very close at Vanderbilt, and Price gives significant credit to Johnson for his success.

RP | Daniel Bard | Boston Red Sox | Fantasy,
New Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell is impressed with what he has seen regarding RP Daniel Bard, who has changed some of his mechanics to avoid a repeat of his 2012 season. He shows the power he previously had as a reliever. His mind-set is more clear and his approach is more simplified."

RP | Mark Hendrickson | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy,
The Baltimore Orioles plan to offer a minor-league contract to free-agent P Mark Hendrickson (Orioles) with an invitation to spring training, a club source said. Hendrickson last pitched in the majors in 2011.
