First Baseman

The New York Mets will consider trading 1B Ike Davis in the offseason to upgrade areas of the team and move OF Lucas Duda to first base. The Mets are disappointed with Davis' unwillingness to make changes based on coaching advice. They also worry that he is out too late after games, and that could influence other young players.

1B | Adrian Gonzalez | Los Angeles Dodgers | Fantasy,
Los Angeles Dodgers OF Shane Victorino is hitting only .233 after going 0-for-6 Sunday, Sept. 16, and he has more strikeouts (26) than runs scored (20). 1B Adrian Gonzalez is hitting just .233 with one home run since joining the team, and SS Hanley Ramirez is hitting .264 and playing terrible defense. SP Josh Beckett is 1-3 in his four starts with a 3.38 ERA.

Second Baseman

2B | Chase Utley | Philadelphia Phillies | Fantasy
Philadelphia Phillies 2B Chase Utley continues to receive pre-game work at third base, and the prospect of him starting a game there could become a reality soon. However, general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. and manager Charlie Manuel continue to downplay the possibility that Utley will start a game there this season. "Only if he feels comfortable there, and likely only if we're out of the race," Amaro said. 2B Freddy Galvis would play second base if Utley starts at third.

2B | Danny Espinosa | Washington Nationals | Injury, Fantasy
Washington Nationals 2B Danny Espinosa (shoulder) is expected to miss the team's series against the Los Angeles Dodgers this week because of a sore left shoulder. Espinosa will have an MRI exam Monday, Sept. 17. He has gone 1-for-21 in his last six games while battling through the shoulder injury. Espinosa has missed a team-low two games this year. INF Steve Lombardozzi is expected to take over at second base.

The Toronto Blue Jays issued a statement Monday, Sept. 17, regarding a homophobic slur written in Spanish on the eye black of SS Yunel Escobar during a game Saturday, Sept. 15. General manager Alex Anthopoulos, manager John Farrell, coach Luis Rivera and Escobar will be available to the media Tuesday, Sept. 18.

SS | Sean Rodriguez | Tampa Bay Rays | Injury, Fantasy
Tampa Bay Rays SS Sean Rodriguez (hand) was cleared by doctors to hit Monday, Sept. 17, and he hit soft toss and took batting practice in the cages. He hopes to take batting practice before the game Tuesday, Sept. 18, and he could see a start soon.

SS | Brian Dozier | Minnesota Twins | Fantasy
Minnesota Twins assistant general manager Rob Antony said SS Brian Dozier might be best suited playing second base in the majors, and the team will test him out there and at third base in the Venezuelan Winter League this offseason. Dozier committed 15 errors in the majors this year, which was the fourth most among major league shortstops. SS Pedro Florimon Jr. is hitting only .237 with five doubles, two triples and five RBIs in 29 games, but manager Ron Gardenhire likes him at shortstop.

Third Baseman

3B | Wilson Betemit | Baltimore Orioles | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, Baltimore Orioles INF Wilson Betemit (wrist) visited a hand specialist Monday, Sept. 17, and it was determined he will not require surgery on his wrist. He received a cortisone shot instead. Manager Buck Showalter is not conceding that Betemit still might miss the remainder of the season.

Tampa Bay Rays 3B Evan Longoria is taking the day off Monday, Sept. 17, and he'll likely play the rest of the series against the Boston Red Sox.

Detroit Tigers C Alex Avila (head, jaw) wasn't available to play after experiencing headaches after batting practice Monday, Sept. 17. He's now questionable to play Tuesday, Sept. 18.

Boston Red Sox OF Jacoby Ellsbury has no interest in a long-term deal and plans to test free agency when he's eligible.

OF | Xavier Nady | San Francisco Giants | Injury
San Francisco Giants OF Xavier Nady (hamstring) returned to left field for the first time Monday, Sept. 17, since injuring his hamstring Sept. 5.

Updating previous reports, Baltimore Orioles OF Nick Markakis (thumb) will not need surgery on his injured right thumb. He's still unlikely to return unless the team advances deep into the playoffs.

With his next home run, Baltimore Orioles OF Adam L. Jones will have 30 for the season. He would become the sixth Orioles outfielder to hit 30 or more in a season, joining Brady Anderson (50 in 1996), Albert Belle (37 in 1999), Ken Singleton (32 in 1979), Boog Powell (39 in 1964) and Frank Robinson (49 in 1966, 30 in 1967 and 32 in 1969). His 29 homers are the second-most by a center fielder in Orioles history behind Anderson.

SP | Doug Fister | Detroit Tigers | Fantasy
Chicago White Sox SP Doug Fister worked four-plus innings in defeat Monday, Sept. 17, and he was charged with eight hits and five runs, four earned, in a 5-4 loss to the Detroit Tigers.

SP | R.A. Dickey | New York Mets | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
New York Mets manager Terry Collins confirmed SP R.A. Dickey will pitch three more times after Monday, Sept. 17, also saying that SP Collin McHugh will receive at least one more start and leaving open the possibility that SP Jeurys Familia could receive one, too. The only starting pitcher still on a concrete schedule is Dickey, who started Monday's game against the Phillies and is in line to start every fifth game. Dickey will pitch again Sunday, Sept. 23, against the Miami Marlins in his final start at Citi Field, then on Sept. 28 in Atlanta and Oct. 3 in the season finale in Miami.

Lewis is out for the rest of this year, but he's not wearing a brace on his surgically repaired elbow anymore and he expects to start building strength in his arm later this week or early next week.

He was collapsing before, making his arm drag sideways, which kept him from throwing from a high angle. Diamond believes he corrected the issue during a bullpen session Friday, Sept. 14. In his last three starts heading into Sunday, Sept. 16, he was 1-2 with a 6.50 ERA.
