Third Baseman

The Pittsburgh Pirates do not plan on picking up the 2012 options on Cs Ryan Doumit or Chris Snyder (back). Doumit's option was worth $7.25 million, and he had another option for 2013 worth $8.25 million. His buyout is for $500,000. Snyder's option was worth $6.75 million, and he will receive a $750,000 buyout. The Bucs will not try to re-sign either backstop at a reduced cost. Snyder continues to rehab from back surgery in Arizona and hopes to resume throwing around Thanksgiving.

St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa never considered moving OF Jon Jay out of the starting lineup for the World Series despite his struggles. "He's putting the ball in play, he's not getting beat at the plate. It certainly hasn't affected his defense. We have a legitimate option with (2B Skip Schumaker). Former Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets OF Lenny Dykstra was convicted of three counts of grand theft auto and filing a false financial statement after declining to challenge the charges in Los Angeles. Dykstra, 48, pleaded "no contest" in court Wednesday, Oct. 19, and faces as long as four years in state prison. He was released pending his sentencing on Jan. 20.
