First Baseman

1B | Darin Ruf | Philadelphia Phillies | Fantasy
Philadelphia Phillies OF Darin Ruf may be in danger of not making the team unless the club plans to use OF Marlon Byrd as a backup in center field. MLB.com writer Todd Zolecki speculates Ruf may be out of luck if the club chooses to carry 13 pitchers on the 25-man roster.

Shortstop

SS | Rougned Odor | Texas Rangers | Transaction, Fantasy
The Texas Rangers have invited 2B Rougned Odor to big-league camp. He is rated as the team's top prospect.

SS | Hanley Ramirez | Los Angeles Dodgers | Fantasy
Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly admitted that he will consider using OF Yasiel Puig in the leadoff spot this season. Such a move would provide better right-lefty balance in the lineup and move OF Carl Crawford further down. Crawford would bat second, SS Hanley Ramirez fourth and 1B Adrian Gonzalez fourth. Puig had a .391 on-base percentage last year, which was second on the team. Puig was in the leadoff spot for 28 games last year and had a slash line of .333/.409/.618 with eight of his 19 home runs.

SS | Derek Jeter | New York Yankees | Injury, Fantasy
New York Yankees SS Derek Jeter (ankle) took on-field batting practice Monday, Feb. 3, for the first time since ending his 2013 season short. He hit to all fields while taking 39 swings at the team's spring complex, and he also took 34 grounders at shortstop. Jeter said everything is going well in his rehab.

Third Baseman

3B | Will Middlebrooks | Boston Red Sox | Fantasy
Boston Red Sox OF Jackie Bradley, SP Drake Britton, OF Alex Hassan, 3B Will Middlebrooks, OF Daniel Nava and C Blake Swihart were in Fort Myers Monday, Feb. 3, working at the team's spring training facility.

Catcher

C | Jose Lobaton | Tampa Bay Rays | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
The Washington Nationals may be interested in Tampa Bay Rays C Jose Lobaton as a backup catcher to C Wilson Ramos. The Rays are trying to shed Lobaton's $950,000 salary, but they also do not need a third catcher because of the presence of C Ryan Hanigan and C Jose Molina.

C | Matt Wieters | Baltimore Orioles | Fantasy
The Baltimore Orioles are hoping to avoid arbitration with C Matt Wieters, and executive vice president Dan Duquette said the team hopes to have a deal with him by next week.

Outfielder

OF | Marlon Byrd | Philadelphia Phillies | Fantasy
Philadelphia Phillies OF Darin Ruf may be in danger of not making the team unless the club plans to use OF Marlon Byrd as a backup in center field. MLB.com writer Todd Zolecki speculates Ruf may be out of luck if the club chooses to carry 13 pitchers on the 25-man roster.

OF | Mark Trumbo | Arizona Diamondbacks | Transaction, Fantasy
The Arizona Diamondbacks and OF Mark Trumbo "continue to have dialogue," according to general manager Kevin Towers. Trumbo asked for $5.85 million in his arbitration filing, and the Diamondbacks have offered $3.4 million.

OF | Yasiel Puig | Los Angeles Dodgers | Fantasy
Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly admitted that he will consider using OF Yasiel Puig in the leadoff spot this season. Such a move would provide better right-lefty balance in the lineup and move OF Carl Crawford further down. Crawford would bat second, SS Hanley Ramirez fourth and 1B Adrian Gonzalez fourth. Puig had a .391 on-base percentage last year, which was second on the team. Puig was in the leadoff spot for 28 games last year and had a slash line of .333/.409/.618 with eight of his 19 home runs.

OF | Gerardo Parra | Arizona Diamondbacks | Transaction, Fantasy
The Arizona Diamondbacks avoided arbitration with OF Gerardo Parra Monday, Feb. 3, by agreeing to a one-year, $4.85 million deal.

Starting Pitcher

SP | Ervin Santana | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy,
Even though there are just three days left until spring training begins for Arizona Diamondbacks pitchers and catchers, the team is making one last run at free agency. They have talked with free-agent SP Bronson Arroyo (Reds) but would likely offer a two-year deal instead of a longer contract. It is believed SP Ervin Santana and SP Ubaldo Jimenez would not attract attention because of the draft pick compensation tied to both.

SP | Jenrry Mejia | New York Mets | Injury,
New York Mets RP Jenrry Mejia (elbow) has not thrown a bullpen session since his elbow surgery, but he has thrown long-toss from over 100 feet without discomfort, according to Mets Director of Latin American Operations Juan Henderson Monday, Feb. 3. "He's on the right track. He's still on his rehab program, which started down here. Now he went to Port St. Lucie to continue it and he's doing very well," Henderson said. "He's on schedule so we are happy with what we've seen so far with his progress. So he should be fine and ready to compete in the states."

SP | Jeremy Hellickson | Tampa Bay Rays | Injury, Fantasy,
Tampa Bay Rays SP Jeremy Hellickson (elbow) underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow last week and is expected to be out until mid to late May. The surgery was done to remove loose bodies from his arm in what was a minor surgery, but he's expected to miss the first six to eight weeks of the season. He went 12-10 with a 5.17 ERA in 2013. SP Jake Odorizzi will likely be counted on to fill Hellickson's rotation spot. SPs Alex Colome and Enny Romero are other options.

Odorizzi can be a late-round flier to fill out your rotation in deeper leagues. He leans more on control, like Hellickson, so his upside is limited, at least this early in his major league career.

Relief Pitcher

RP | Fernando Rodney | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy,
The New York Mets are unlikely to sign free-agent RP Fernando Rodney (Rays), even though they continue to look for another pitcher that could pitch in the ninth inning.
