Shortstop

SS | Aledmys Diaz | free agent | Fantasy
Cuban SS Aledmys Diaz is currently training in Arizona and plans to hold showcases for interested teams next month in Arizona and Florida. The 23-year-old Diaz is ineligible to sign until Feb. 19, because of documents that had misrepresented his age.

Third Baseman

3B | Michael Young | free agent | Free Agents
Free-agent 3B Michael Young (Dodgers) has still not decided if he will play this season. Young indicated he probably would re-sign with the Los Angeles Dodgers if he decided to play.

3B | Miguel Sano | Minnesota Twins | Injury
Minnesota Twins 3B Miguel Sano (elbow) is fine, according to general manager Terry Ryan. "He's fine" Ryan said. "Elbow seems OK. Still haven't ramped him up yet. Right now he's ready to go."

3B | Cody Asche | Philadelphia Phillies | Fantasy
The Philadelphia Phillies have 17 players under contract for a total of $158.83 million in 2014. The rest of the 25-man roster will likely be made up of pre-arbitration eligible players (like OF Domonic Brown and 3B Cody Asche) or non-roster players that make the club out of camp (OF Bobby Abreu).

Catcher

C | Yenier Bello | free agent | Fantasy
The San Diego Padres are among the teams interested in Cuban C Yenier Bello.

Outfielder

OF | Nelson Cruz | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
Cincinnati Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said the team likely will not look to sign free-agent OF Nelson Cruz (Rangers) because they do not want to lose a draft pick.

OF | Giancarlo Stanton | Miami Marlins | Fantasy
The Miami Marlins decided this offseason that it was not the right time to offer OF Giancarlo Stanton a multi-year contract and are hesitant to bring the idea up once the season starts. The team is expected to make offer to Stanton before they consider trading him, which could happen as early as next offseason. Stanton is believed to be in good spirits because he believes the team improved this offseason and gave him a fair contract this offseason.

OF | Domonic Brown | Philadelphia Phillies | Fantasy
The Philadelphia Phillies have 17 players under contract for a total of $158.83 million in 2014. The rest of the 25-man roster will likely be made up of pre-arbitration eligible players (like OF Domonic Brown and 3B Cody Asche) or non-roster players that make the club out of camp (OF Bobby Abreu).

OF | Bryce Harper | Washington Nationals | Injury, Fantasy
Washington Nationals OF Bryce Harper (knee) said Saturday, Jan. 25, that he started sprinting three weeks ago, and he likes where he is in his rehab from knee surgery. However, he is uncertain if he will be 100 percent when the team reports to camp.

Starting Pitcher

SP | A.J. Burnett | free agent | Free Agents
The Pittsburgh Pirates likely will not go after a starting pitcher if free-agent SP A.J. Burnett (Pirates) decides to retire. The team could use the money they have saved for Burnett on a starting first baseman if Burnett retires.

SP | Johan Santana | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
Minnesota Twins general manager Terry Ryan said the club continues to have free-agent SP Johan Santana (Mets) on their radar, although nothing is imminent. "We've had some dialogue with his representation," Ryan said. "He's not quite ready to make a decision yet, but we're keeping an eye on him down there. Obviously it would be a good fit for both of us." Santana has not yet scheduled a throwing session for interested clubs and the Twins are uncertain where he is in his throwing program. According to Ryan, Santana isn't likely to be ready to pitch until the summer.

SP | Matt Garza | Milwaukee Brewers | Fantasy
Updating a previous report, Milwaukee Brewers SP Matt Garza's deal took several days to finalize because both sides were trying to iron out the details of the vesting option for the 2018 season, as well as come to an agreement on the payouts of deferred money.

SP | Ervin Santana | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
Industry insiders feel that free-agent SP Ervin Santana (Royals) will end up with a deal less than three years at less than $40 million, based on what SP Matt Garza is expected to receive from the Milwaukee Brewers. This development could make many more teams interested in Santana.

SP | Ubaldo Jimenez | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy,
Veteran Cleveland Plain Dealer sportswriter Paul Hoynes speculates free-agent SP Ubaldo Jimenez (Indians) could return to the Cleveland Indians on a one-year contract for 2014 worth $14 million or less, but only if he can't find a taker on a three or four-year contract.

SP | David Price | Tampa Bay Rays | Fantasy,
MLB.com columnist Bill Chastain speculates with the Tampa Bay Rays signing CL Grant Balfour to a two-year, $12 million deal, SP David Price will likely stick around. Sources indicate the willingness to spend on Balfour means the team is making a run for the AL East in 2014.

SP | Derek Holland | Texas Rangers | Injury, Fantasy,
Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland (knee) is making small strides in his recovery from microfracture surgery on his left knee. Holland hopes to start riding a stationary bike next week, and he is expected to be off crutches and start walking by Feb. 20. Holland is hopeful of returning to the rotation sometime this summer.

SP | Stephen Strasburg | Washington Nationals | Injury, Fantasy,

Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington said SP Yu Darvish would be the Opening Day starter against the Philadelphia Phillies March 31.

Relief Pitcher

RP | Vinnie Pestano | Cleveland Indians | Fantasy
Cleveland Indians pitching coach Mickey Callaway revealed that RP Vinnie Pestano suffered an elbow injury while pitching in the World Baseball Classic for Team USA last spring, which resulted in altered mechanics and decreased effectiveness. "I think some of that WBC injury really trained his arm to do something different than he's done in the past," said Callaway. "The reason Vinnie was so good in the past is that he has unorthodox mechanics. When he had a little bit of an injury in the WBC, he started throwing like a normal person, which isn't good." Callaway is confident that Pestano will be able to bounce back this season.

RP | Grant Balfour | Tampa Bay Rays | Fantasy,
Even though the Washington Nationals lost out on Tampa Bay Rays RP Grant Balfour, the club plans to continue to look for relief. MLB.com's Bill Ladson also reports the team could pursue backup catching help.

RP | Tyler Clippard | Washington Nationals | Transaction, Fantasy,
Washington Nationals RP Tyler Clippard and SP Doug Fister are expected to take the team to arbitration, although general manager Mike Rizzo is hopeful of getting a deal done before a hearing is scheduled in February. Clippard is asking for $6.35 million, with the team looking to pay $4.45 million. Fister, who was acquired from the Detroit Tigers in December, seeks $8.5 million, while the team countered with $5.5 million.
