First Baseman

1B | Carlos Pena | Kansas City Royals | Transaction, Free Agents, Fantasy
The Kansas City Royals agreed to terms with free-agent 1B Carlos Pena (Astros) Tuesday, Aug. 27, and the club assigned him to Triple-A Omaha.

Second Baseman

2B | Dan Uggla | Atlanta Braves | Transaction, Fantasy
The Atlanta Braves have activated 2B Dan Uggla (eyes) from the 15-day disabled list. The team also optioned OF Todd Cunningham to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Uggla should be put back in the fantasy starting lineups because he should be playing nearly every day.

2B | Robinson Cano | New York Yankees | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, New York Yankees 2B Robinson Cano (hand) had x-rays Tuesday, Aug. 27, after being hit on the left hand by a pitch against the Toronto Blue Jays. The x-rays were negative, and he is considered day to day with a hand contusion.

Fantasy owners and the team dodged a huge bullet here, as those contending for championships would have been dealt a huge blow if Cano were out for any significant amount of time. He still could miss a game or two, but consider yourself lucky if you're one of his owners.

SS | Eduardo Nunez | New York Yankees | Injury, Fantasy
New York Yankees SS Eduardo Nunez (knee) left the game Tuesday, Aug. 27, against the Toronto Blue Jays. It is believed his nagging knee issue tightened up on him.

SS | Addison Russell | Oakland Athletics | Transaction
The Oakland Athletics will send SS Addison Russell to the Arizona Fall League, the team announced Tuesday, Aug. 27. He will be joined by A's minor-leaguers P Ryan Dull, P Omar Duran, P Seth Frankoff, C David Freitas, 1B Max Muncy and P Jeff Urlaub.

SS | Troy Tulowitzki | Colorado Rockies | Injury, Fantasy
Colorado Rockies SS Troy Tulowitzki (side) returns to the lineup Tuesday, Aug. 27. He's batting third.

Get him back in your lineups.

Third Baseman

3B | Luis Valbuena | Chicago Cubs | Injury, Depth Chart Tidbit
Chicago Cubs 3B Luis Valbuena (oblique) was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI in his first rehab game with the rookie level AZL Cubs. OF Ryan Sweeney (rib) went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI in his third rehab game with the affiliate.

Valbuena may have to cede ABs to Donnie Murphy when he returns, but he's on the good side of a platoon and figures to stay that way once Murphy cools off, as expected. Sweeney may not have any place to play unless the Cubbies deal Nate Schierholtz via waivers.

3B | Ryan Wheeler | Colorado Rockies | Injury, Transaction, Fantasy
The Colorado Rockies activated C Yorvit Torrealba (concussion) from the 7-day concussion disabled list Tuesday, Aug. 27, and optioned INF Ryan Wheeler to Triple-A Colorado Springs in the corresponding roster move.

3B | Mike Moustakas | Kansas City Royals | Injury, Fantasy
Kansas City Royals 3B Mike Moustakas (illness) will miss at least a few games because he's battling strep throat.

Jamey Carroll will probably get a few more at-bats to boost his AL-only spot value.

C | Joe Mauer | Minnesota Twins | Injury, Fantasy
Minnesota Twins C Joe Mauer (concussion) told manager Ron Gardenhire that he is starting to feel a little better, but there is still no timetable for Mauer's return to the lineup. "We just have to wait and see," Gardenhire said Tuesday, Aug. 27. However, general manager Terry Ryan indicated Tuesday that there is no plan to shut down Mauer for the season.

C | John Jaso | Oakland Athletics | Injury, Fantasy
Oakland Athletics manager Bob Melvin said Tuesday, Aug. 27, that there is no timetable for the return of C John Jaso (concussion). He is still feeling nauseated, but is better than he has been.

C | Buster Posey | San Francisco Giants | Fantasy
San Francisco Giants C Buster Posey isn't in the lineup Tuesday, Aug 27. It's a planned off-day.

Daily-lineup players should remove him if they have an alternative.

OF | Ryan Raburn | Cleveland Indians | Injury, Transaction, Fantasy
The Cleveland Indians have placed OF Ryan Raburn (Achilles') on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left Achilles' tendon. In a corresponding move, the team recalled OF Matt Carson from Triple-A Columbus.

OF | Oswaldo Arcia | Minnesota Twins | Injury, Fantasy
Minnesota Twins OF Oswaldo Arcia (wrist) was back out of the lineup Tuesday, Aug. 27, against the Kansas City Royals due to continued soreness in his wrist. Arcia has been trying to play through pain. "I just wanted him to know, 'It's not like we're mad at you. If you're hurt, you're hurt. You just have to be honest with us and tell us you're hurt," manager Ron Gardenhire said. "He wants to paly and he wants to be a part of it, but he's not swinging very well."

OF | Josh Willingham | Minnesota Twins | Transaction, Fantasy
The Minnesota Twins placed OF Josh Willingham on revocable waivers Tuesday, Aug. 27, according to a Major League source.

OF | Byron Buxton | Minnesota Twins | Transaction, Fantasy
Minnesota Twins RP A.J. Achter, OF Byron Buxton, OF Max Kepler, RP Zachary Jones, P Trevor May, P Alex Meyer and 2B Eddie Rosario are set to play in the Arizona Fall League this year. Buxton is ranked as the No. 1 overall prospect, according to MLB.com.

OF | Carlos Gonzalez | Colorado Rockies | Injury, Fantasy
Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez (finger) took batting practice Tuesday, Aug. 27, and hit the ball hard, including four homers. He was pleased enough that he hopes to head out on a minor-league rehab assignment shortly. "I want to go on a rehab as soon as I can - probably in a few days," Gonzalez said. He said he still feels pain, but was encouraged with his swing.

OF | Andres Torres | San Francisco Giants | Injury, Fantasy
San Francisco Giants OF Andres Torres (Achilles') is scheduled to have surgery to remove bone spurs from near his Achilles' tendon. He is expected to miss six months.

It appears Torres will be ready to go for spring training 2014, barring any type of setbacks.

OF | Matt Kemp | Los Angeles Dodgers | Injury, Fantasy
Los Angeles Dodgers OF Matt Kemp (ankle) reported no problems in his ankle following a session running the bases Tuesday, Aug. 27. He thinks he will be able to play in minor-league rehab games soon.

Keep Kemp reserved in all fantasy leagues until he is able to officially return and prove his health in at least one or two full games without any setbacks.

OF | Jason Kubel | Arizona Diamondbacks | Transaction, Fantasy
The Arizona Diamondbacks called up SP David Holmberg from Double-A Mobile to start Tuesday, Aug. 27. In a corresponding move, OF Jason Kubel was designated for assignment.

Kubel could latch on with an OF-hungry team, but he's done little to make an argument for any mixed-league value even if he goes somewhere else. Holmberg is a decent prospect and could be a serviceable stream play versus the San Diego Padres. Give him a look.

Starting Pitcher

SP | Wandy Rodriguez | Pittsburgh Pirates | Injury, Fantasy,
Pittsburgh Pirates SP Wandy Rodriguez (forearm) could begin a rehab assignment in the near future after his meeting with Dr. James Andrews went well.

SP | Kevin Gausman | Baltimore Orioles | Transaction,

The Oakland Athletics have activated SP Brett Anderson (foot) from the 60-day disabled list. The team also optioned SP Tommy Milone to Triple-A Sacramento.

SP | Joe Kelly | St. Louis Cardinals | Fantasy,
St. Louis Cardinals SP Joe Kelly is expected to be the starting pitcher in the team's game Sunday, Sept. 1, after the team decided to send SP Carlos Martinez down to the minor leagues. Kelly will be on his normal rest because of the team's off day Thursday, Aug. 29.

SP | Jeremy Hefner | New York Mets | Injury,
New York Mets SP Jeremy Hefner (elbow) underwent Tommy John surgery Wednesday, Aug. 28, and said the doctor told him everything went well.

SP | Matt Harvey | New York Mets | Injury, Fantasy
New York Mets SP Matt Harvey (elbow) spoke with Philadelphia Phillies SP Roy Halladay on Tuesday, Aug. 27, according to Mets general manager Sandy Alderson. Halladay tore his ulnar collateral ligament approximately 10 years ago and didn't have surgery to repair it.

And things turned out OK for the Doc for a while. Harvey is hoping to return from the same injury, although the severity of the Mets ace's injury compared to Halladay's 10 years ago isn't clear. There is precedent, but surgery remains a good possibility. Harvey has vowed to rehab and be ready for the Mets' season opener in 2014, for what it's worth.

SP | Josh Johnson | Toronto Blue Jays | Injury, Fantasy
Toronto Blue Jays SP Josh Johnson (forearm) is done for the season. Dr. James Andrews confirmed a forearm strain, and there were no torn ligaments.

Johnson's rough season ends with a 6.20 ERA. He can be dropped in all formats.

SP | Alexi Ogando | Texas Rangers | Injury, Fantasy,

SP | Bartolo Colon | Oakland Athletics | Injury, Fantasy,
Oakland Athletics SP Bartolo Colon (groin) remained on track to come off the 15-day disabled list and start Thursday, Aug. 29, against the Detroit Tigers.

SP | Jeremy Hellickson | Tampa Bay Rays | Transaction, Fantasy
The Tampa Bay Rays optioned SP Jeremy Hellickson to high Single-A Charlotte.

Some sort of demotion was likely, but this is a bit of a wake-up call. He needs to work on aggressiveness, pitch selection and location. This could be a temporary banishment; he could move up quickly if he proves himself. Either way, Matt Moore (elbow) is expected to return within the week, so they'll cover Hellickson's rotation spot that way. It's safe to drop Hellickson in most mixed leagues, but he could come back up for a few starts in September if you're desperate.

Relief Pitcher

RP | Octavio Dotel | Detroit Tigers | Injury, Fantasy,
Detroit Tigers RP Octavio Dotel (elbow, thigh) had his minor-league rehab appearance with Triple-A Toledo cut short Tuesday, Aug. 27, when he was struck by a comebacker. He was hit on the thigh, and forced to leave the game. There is no word on the severity of the injury.
