1B | Albert Pujols | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Injury, Fantasy
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1B Albert Pujols (foot) is still hoping to return before the end of the season, and he is now out of his walking boot.
Fantasy Tip: If Pujols does make it back, it probably won't be for long enough to make much more of a fantasy impact for your squad. We wouldn't blame you if you dropped him in redraft formats for better options at the corner infield spots.
1B | Sean Halton | Milwaukee Brewers | Transaction,
The Milwaukee Brewers recalled 1B Sean Halton from Triple-A Nashville Friday, Aug. 16, and optioned RP Alfredo Figaro to Nashville in a corresponding move.
2B | Ryan Roberts | Tampa Bay Rays | Transaction, Fantasy
Tampa Bay Rays 2B Ryan Roberts cleared waivers and accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A Durham. Roberts will report Monday, Aug. 19, to Durham.
2B | Robinson Cano | New York Yankees | Free Agents, Fantasy
Speculation from Ken Rosenthal at FOX Sports has the Los Angeles Dodgers making a play for New York Yankees 2B Robinson Cano should Cano reach free agency. The Dodgers have been indicating that they won't be free spenders forever, and they could dedicate their resources to new deals for SP Clayton Kershaw and SS Hanley Ramirez. It is also possible one of their surplus outfielders might be traded, which would free up money for Cano.
2B | Dan Uggla | Atlanta Braves | Injury, Fantasy
Atlanta Braves 2B Dan Uggla (eyes) is expected to be able to play when he is eligible to be activated from the disabled list Aug. 28.
2B | Omar Infante | Detroit Tigers | Injury, Fantasy

2B | Dustin Pedroia | Boston Red Sox | Injury, Fantasy
Boston Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia (shin) left the game Saturday, Aug. 17, against the New York Yankees due to a bruised left shin. He fouled a ball off his leg in the eighth inning. Manager John Farrell said a fluoroscan on Pedroia's leg did not reveal a fracture, and no additional x-rays have been scheduled. "He's sore," Farrell said. "We'll check in the morning, but at this point, we don't anticipate him missing any time."
Fantasy Tip: If Pedroia is in the lineup for the nationally televised game Sunday night, keep him in the active fantasy lineup for the upcoming week.
2B | Marco Scutaro | San Francisco Giants | Injury, Fantasy
San Francisco Giants 2B Marco Scutaro (back) left the game Saturday, Aug. 17, against the Miami Marlins due to tightness in his lower back, the team announced. Scutaro will not play Sunday, Aug. 18, to rest.
Fantasy Tip: If you're in daily fantasy leagues, reserve Scutaro immediately. It sounds as if he was scheduled to get the day off anyway. For the upcoming week, it might be a good idea to keep him reserved since he has been in and out of the lineup recently.
2B | Blake DeWitt | free agent | Transaction
The Atlanta Braves released 2B Blake DeWitt Saturday, Aug. 17.
2B | Wilmer Flores | New York Mets | Injury, Fantasy
New York Mets 3B Wilmer Flores (ankle) remains out of the lineup Friday, Aug. 16.
Fantasy Tip: Flores doesn't appear close to a return, and a trip to the disabled list is a realistic possibility. Josh Satin should continue to get the majority of starts at third in his absence.
2B | Matt Carpenter | St. Louis Cardinals | Fantasy
St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong is starting at second base and hitting sixth in the lineup for his major league debut Friday, Aug. 16. 2B Matt Carpenter was moved to third base and 3B David Freese is on the bench. However, Wong won't play every day, but the team will try to get him frequent playing time. It could mean decreased time for Freese. A platoon situation could emerge with between Freese, who hits right-handed, and the left-handed hitting Wong. "All we're trying to do is maximize what we have," manager Mike Matheny said. "Kolten has been our most consistent guy in Triple-A. ... And in order to use him, we're going to have to be creative and guys are going to have to understand that we're trying to help our club as a whole." Wong won't take over the leadoff spot from Carpenter when he's in the lineup. Wong was hitting .303 with a .369 on-base percentage and 20 stolen bases at Triple-A Memphis.
Fantasy Tip: Wong can do a little bit of everything, and with semi-regular playing time, he could be a nice weapon for fantasy owners for the rest of the season. He should be owned in all NL-only and most deep mixed leagues. Freese, whose power has failed to come around this year, should be benched or outright cut in shallow leagues.
SS | Derek Jeter | New York Yankees | Injury, Fantasy
New York Yankees SS Derek Jeter (calf) will take simulated at-bats Monday, Aug. 19, but has not been cleared to run the bases.
SS | Xander Bogaerts | Boston Red Sox | Transaction, Breaking, Fantasy
The Boston Red Sox have called up SS Xander Bogaerts from Triple-A Pawtucket.
Fantasy Tip: Bogaerts figures to see considerable time at shortstop and third base. Their top prospect has hit .297-15-67 across two levels of the minors this season. He was hitting .284-9-32 in 225 Triple-A at-bats. There is some adjustment to the majors to be expected, but he's worth picking up in most formats.
SS | Starlin Castro | Chicago Cubs | Fantasy
Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro was benched by manager Dale Sveum after making a mental mistake during the fifth inning of the game against the St. Louis Cardinals Saturday, Aug. 17. With the bases loaded and one out, Castro caught a fly ball in shallow left field off the bat of 2B Matt Carpenter. He hesitated to throw home after putting his head down, allowing Jon Jay to score from third base and letting the other runners advance. INF Donnie Murphy shifted over from third base to shortstop for the sixth inning, with INF Cody Ransom coming off the bench to play the hot corner. Castro returned to the lineup Sunday, Aug. 18.
SS | J.J. Hardy | Baltimore Orioles | Injury, Fantasy
Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy (back) was not in the starting lineup for the second consecutive game Sunday, Aug. 18, because of tightness in his back. INF Ryan Flaherty started in his place. Hardy is available as a pinch hitter.

SS | Hiroyuki Nakajima | Oakland Athletics | Transaction
The Oakland Athletics outrighted SS Hiroyuki Nakajima to Triple-A Sacramento Friday, Aug. 16.
SS | Tyler Pastornicky | Atlanta Braves | Injury, Fantasy
Atlanta Braves SS Tyler Pastornicky (knee) will miss the rest of the year and will have surgery to fix a torn anterior cruciate ligament Monday, Aug. 19. Pastornicky tore the ligament in his knee after he crashed into OF Jason Heyward Wednesday, Aug. 14, attempting to catch a fly ball. INF Phil Gosselin is being called up from Triple-A Gwinnett. Gosselin hit .277 with two home runs and 11 RBIs in the minors.
Fantasy Tip: Pastornicky was filling in for Dan Uggla (Lasik eye surgery) at second base. Now, that task will fall to some combination of Paul Janish and Gosselin. Nothing really worth pursuing unless you're desperate for a middle infielder in NL-only leagues.
SS | Dee Gordon | Los Angeles Dodgers | Transaction, Fantasy
The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled OF Scott Van Slyke from Triple-A Albuquerque Friday, Aug. 16, and optioned SS Dee Gordon to Albuquerque in a corresponding move.
Fantasy Tip: Van Slyke will likely just be used as outfield depth and probably isn't worth grabbing in fantasy circles unless Andre Ethier's calf issue worsens.
3B | Alex Rodriguez | New York Yankees | Fantasy
New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez could have accepted a much lesser suspension. In April, baseball even floated a 50-game suspension, according to multiple sources. Rodriguez, however, was not willing to work toward such a deal and hired new representation because he wanted to mount a more aggressive fight, sources said.
3B | David Freese | St. Louis Cardinals | Free Agents, Fantasy
The St. Louis Cardinals' promotion of 2B Kolten Wong could be the first step towards the club trading 3B David Freese. Freese is having an off year at the plate, but the free agent market at third this offseason will be very thin. Freese is under club control through 2015 and while he's not an All-Star, it's easy to see teams making a play for him.
3B | Wilson Betemit | Baltimore Orioles | Injury
Baltimore Orioles executive vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette said the team will continue to look to acquire a designated hitter even though 3B Wilson Betemit (knee) is close to return. The team would prefer to acquire a right-handed batter that can play against left-handed pitchers.
3B | Mike Moustakas | Kansas City Royals | Injury, Fantasy
Kansas City Royals 3B Mike Moustakas (calf) went 2-for-3 in his return to the lineup Saturday, Aug. 17, but was removed after six innings as a precautionary measure. "He's at 75 percent," manager Ned Yost said. "What happens is, because the muscle is weakened, it starts to get fatigued and a little bit sore. As the game went on, he was starting to get a little bit sore, so we got him out." Moustakas was not in the lineup Sunday, Aug. 18, and Yost said there is a possibility that he could sit out until Wednesday, Aug. 21.
3B | Conor Gillaspie | Chicago White Sox | Injury, Fantasy

3B | Chase Headley | San Diego Padres | Fantasy
Struggling San Diego Padres 3B Chase Headley was given the day off against the New York Mets Saturday, Aug. 17. He has gone 6-for-33 (.182) in his last eight games. "He hasn't had many days off, so physically it's good and mentally as well," manager Bud Black said. "The last five, six games he has been going at it pretty hard both ways."
3B | Pablo Sandoval | San Francisco Giants | Fantasy
San Francisco Giants 3B Pablo Sandoval has lost 22 pounds in the last six weeks after hiring his brother Luis to be his full-time chef. 3B | Placido Polanco | Miami Marlins | Injury, Fantasy
Miami Marlins 3B Placido Polanco (head) was not in the starting lineup against the San Francisco Giants Saturday, Aug. 17, or Sunday, Aug. 18, after being hit in the head by a pitch during the game Friday, Aug. 16. Manager Mike Redmond does not believe the injury is serious.

3B | Will Middlebrooks | Boston Red Sox | Fantasy
Boston Red Sox 3B Will Middlebrooks is hitting ninth in the order Friday, Aug. 1, for the sixth time in as many games since he was called up from the minors. However, he could move closer toward the middle of the order with the team struggling against southpaws. "That possibility certainly exists," manager John Farrell said. "He's going to tell us when he's ready. As we've seen of late, the bottom half of the lineup has fluctuated a little bit, trying to ride a little bit more of the hot hand at times and when the matchups present themselves to be an advantage. That can happen in time." Middlebrooks is 7-for-18 with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs since coming up.
Fantasy Tip: Middlebrooks is a streaky hitter, but he's hot right now. If he's still on your waiver wire, he could be of use until he cools off. He swings and misses plenty, too, so beware of him cooling off quickly. As long as he's playing every day, Middlebrooks should be owned in cavernous mixed leagues.
C | Travis d'Arnaud | New York Mets | Fantasy

C | John Jaso | Oakland Athletics | Injury, Fantasy
Oakland Athletics C John Jaso (concussion) said his concussion isn't career-threatening, but he won't be back anytime soon. "My brain is still injured, basically."
Fantasy Tip: Keep Jaso reserved in a DL spot for now. Because of the tricky nature of concussions, there's a chance he doesn't play again this year. Derek Norris, who was banged up himself this past week, will be the primary catcher with Jaso out.
C | Buster Posey | San Francisco Giants | Fantasy
San Francisco Giants C Buster Posey is resting Friday, Aug. 16, and manager Bruce Bochy suggested that he could rest his catcher more frequently down the stretch. "We've played some long games," Bochy said. "The first six weeks the pitching struggled a little bit and we had some long games there. It's a different game when you catch 125 or 130 pitches than 200 pitches. It takes a toll on you. It's not the same type of game." Bochy might rest Posey again Sunday, Aug. 18.
Fantasy Tip: Bochy rewarded Hector Sanchez with the start tonight after his game-winning pinch-hit homer yesterday. With the Giants out of contention, Posey might not be the only regular given more rest down the stretch. Keep that in mind as you set your daily and weekly rosters.

Ross will catch nine innings for Triple-A Pawtucket Saturday, Aug. 17, and rejoin the Red Sox Sunday, Aug. 18.
Fantasy Tip: Ross will likely be eased back into action. He's the backup anyway, though, so he's not worth much in any fantasy setup.

SP | Jon Lester | Boston Red Sox | Fantasy,

"That could be a very serious situation if you're in a playoff situation and he can't make the throw," one AL scout said. "I know he's had this for a while... This isn't the best timing for this. It's out there now and teams will likely try to exploit it."

SP | Ryan Vogelsong | San Francisco Giants | Injury, Fantasy,
San Francisco Giants SP Ryan Vogelsong has been pretty shaky in his first two starts off the disabled list, and he allowed three runs and threw 92 pitches in only 3 2/3 innings against the Washington Nationals Thursday, Aug. 15. His fastball is sitting in the 87-89 mph range, too, which is around three mph slower than his normal heater. The Giants could choose to rest Vogelsong down the stretch, especially since he started his offseason earlier than normal in order to pitch in the World Baseball Classic. "It's frustrating because I know I'm behind everyone else who's in midseason form," he said. "That being said, I know that I need to get pitchers where they need to go." However, his arm feels great, since his injury was to his hand.
Fantasy Tip: You can probably find better starting pitching options in mixed leagues. The possibility that San Fran could shut him down or skip him down the stretch makes him even less desirable for the remainder of the year.
RP | Edward Mujica | St. Louis Cardinals | Fantasy
St. Louis Cardinals CL Edward Mujica was unavailable for much of the weekend series in Chicago due to general fatigue. He pitched two innings three times in a four-game span last week.

RP | Rafael Betancourt | Colorado Rockies | Injury, Transaction, Fantasy
The Colorado Rockies have activated RP Rafael Betancourt (appendix) from the 15-day disabled list. In a corresponding move, RP Manuel Corpas was optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs.
RP | Sergio Romo | San Francisco Giants | Fantasy,
San Francisco Giants RP Sergio Romo nailed down his 30th save Saturday, Aug. 17, against the Miami Marlins. He is the sixth player in franchise history to post 30 or more saves in a season, joining the late Rod Beck, Greg Minton, Robb Nen, Brian Wilson and Tim Worrell.
RP | Brian Wilson | Los Angeles Dodgers | Injury, Transaction, Fantasy,
Los Angeles Dodgers RP Brian Wilson (elbow) might be recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque as early as Sunday, Aug. 18. Manager Don Mattingly was noncommittal when asked, but Wilson has cleared all hurdles set forth by the club. "I don't think there will be another simulated game," Mattingly said Saturday, Aug. 17. "I think we're kind of 'gamed' out. He has pretty much crossed off everything we wanted him to do."
RP | Ramon Troncoso | Chicago White Sox | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, Chicago White Sox manager Robin Ventura said RP Ramon Troncoso (heart) was placed on the disabled list because of a heart condition known as pericarditis, which is the inflammation of the outer tissue of the heart. He is currently at a local hospital.
RP | Jesse Crain | Tampa Bay Rays | Injury, Transaction, Fantasy
The Tampa Bay Rays have placed OF/DH Luke Scott (back) on the 15-day disabled list because of lower back spasms. In corresponding moves, RP Jesse Crain (shoulder) has been transferred from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list and RP Brandon Gomes (lat) has been activated from the 60-day disabled list.
RP | Jordan Walden | Atlanta Braves | Injury, Fantasy
Atlanta Braves RP Jordan Walden (hand) said his hand is fully recovered, although he did not pitch against the Washington Nationals Friday, Aug. 16.
RP | Francisco Rodriguez | Baltimore Orioles | Injury, Fantasy,
Baltimore Orioles RP Francisco Rodriguez (groin) left his appearance Friday, Aug. 16, due to a strained right groin. While the team expects him to avoid a stint on the 15-day disabled list, they will recall a pitcher from Triple-A Norfolk Saturday, Aug. 17.
RP | LaTroy Hawkins | New York Mets | Injury, Fantasy,
New York Mets RP LaTroy Hawkins (testicle) is expected to be available to pitch Friday, Aug. 16.
Fantasy Tip: Hawkins will need to be rested down the stretch, but he's the favorite for the majority of save chances if Bobby Parnell (neck) doesn't return again this year. Gonzalez Germen and David Aardsma might receive consideration, too. Germen closed out the game last night with Hawkins unavailable.
RP | Cristhian Martinez | Atlanta Braves | Injury, Transaction,
The Atlanta Braves moved RP Cristhian Martinez (shoulder) to the 60-day disabled list Friday, Aug. 16.
RP | Arquimedes Caminero | Miami Marlins | Transaction,
The Miami Marlins recalled RP Arquimedes Caminero from the minors Friday, Aug. 16.
RP | Kyle Farnsworth | Pittsburgh Pirates | Transaction,
The Pittsburgh Pirates signed free-agent RP Kyle Farnsworth (Rays) to a minor league deal Friday, Aug. 16, and assigned him to Triple-A Indianapolis.
Fantasy Tip: With Jason Grilli (foreram) sidelined, Mark Melancon has done a nice job filling in as the new closer. Farnsworth could come up to the majors and provide another late-inning setup arm, but don't expect him to see any save chances before Grilli returns.
RP | Neftali Feliz | Texas Rangers | Injury,
Texas Rangers RP Neftali Feliz's (elbow) bullpen session went off without a hitch Thursday, Aug. 15, and the team will re-evaluate him.
Fantasy Tip: Feliz is expected to return sometime in September, but it'll only be in some sort of a setup role. He won't have any fantasy value this year.
RP | Ross Wolf | Texas Rangers | Injury, Fantasy,
Updating a previous report, Texas Rangers SP Alexi Ogando (shoulder) is likely to be scratched from his next start Monday, Aug. 19, and he'll probably receive an injection this weekend while waiting for a second opinion on his MRI exam. SP Ross Wolf is a candidate to take the start out of the bullpen, and SP Josh Lindblom is another option in the minors.
Fantasy Tip: Wolf is the better option because he's already on the roster, but don't rule out Lindblom. Both options are only candidates to own in AL-only leagues if they enter the rotation.
RP | Matt Guerrier | Chicago Cubs | Injury,
Chicago Cubs RP Matt Guerrier (elbow) underwent surgery to fix the flexor mass in his right elbow Friday, Aug. 16, and he's expected to be out six to eight months. He went 2-1 with a 2.13 ERA in 15 games with the team.
RP | Eduardo Sanchez | Chicago Cubs | Transaction,
The Chicago Cubs optioned RP Eduardo Sanchez to Triple-A Iowa Friday, Aug. 16, to make room on the roster for SP Jake Arrieta.
RP | Jim Johnson | Baltimore Orioles | Fantasy,
Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter didn't say that RP Jim Johnson would be demoted from the closer's role after blowing three straight saves, but he mentioned that they have other options around him. It looks as though the team will go with a closer-by-committee in the ninth inning based on matchups, at least until Johnson can get back on track.
Fantasy Tip: It would not be surprising to see Showalter give Johnson a bit of a break. Francisco Rodriguez is the best bet to see save opportunities in the near future. Johnson shouldn't be dropped, but it might take him some time before he's back in the ninth full time.
RP | Joaquin Benoit | Detroit Tigers | Fantasy,
Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland said it's unlikely that RPs Joaquin Benoit and Bruce Rondon would be available for either of the games of a doubleheader Friday, Aug. 16, because of their usage in the last few days.
Fantasy Tip: The Tigers lost the first game of the twin bill, so a closer wasn't needed. If a save sitch arises in the nightcap, expect Jose Veras to be deployed in the ninth.
