Fantasy Football Draft Guide - Player Profiles and AnalysisLaurence Maroney, RB, New England Patriots
By KFFL Staff Laurence Maroney | New England Patriots | 5-foot-11, 220 pounds | 4th year
Pros: He has all the tools and ability to become a No. 1 fantasy back. He averaged 4.4 yards per carry and scored six times in each of his first two seasons, despite missing a few games and sharing time. New England's prolific passing attack stretches the field, providing ample real estate for Maroney to exploit. He stated he has something to prove in 2009. Cons: Maroney has been injury prone throughout his career. He missed 13 games in 2008 with a broken bone in one of his shoulders. Maroney has averaged just 12 carries per game and has been an afterthought in the Patriots' prolific passing attack. He was never a full-time ball carrier in college. Maroney will have to fight for playing time with running backs Fred Taylor, Sammy Morris, Kevin Faulk and BenJarvus Green-Ellis. Fantasy tip: It looks doubtful that the talented but brittle Maroney will ever become a workhorse. His confidence is admirable and sparks mild hope, though. View him as a weak No. 5 or strong No. 6 running back in deep leagues, but temper your expectations of a breakout season.
