Fantasy Football Draft Guide - Player Profiles and AnalysisJamal Lewis, RB, Cleveland Browns
By KFFL Staff Jamal Lewis | Cleveland Browns | 5-foot-11, 245 pounds | 10th year
Pros: Playing on a horrible team last season, Lewis topped the 1,000-yard rushing benchmark for the third straight year. The 2008 season marked the second time in three years that Lewis started all 16 regular season games; he missed only one in 2005 and 2007. Since the Browns did not add any notable running back talent during the offseason, Lewis is their No. 1 guy for at least one more year. Cons: Lewis is now 30 and averaged less than 19 touches per contest, a slight decline. He put up a boring 3.6 yards per carry on the season, the third time in four years his average was less 4.0. Lewis also scored just four times and failed to notch any 100-yard rushing games. In addition, his involvement in the Cleveland passing game, as expected, was minimal. He played most of last year with a banged-up ankle that required cleanup surgery. Backup running backs Jerome Harrison and James Davis are expected to receive ample touches in the Browns' new offense. Recent speculation suggests Lewis will be released. Fantasy tip: The Cleveland offense looks like a mess in all areas this year, but Lewis has some value as a matchup play No. 4 running back. You can target Lewis starting in the eighth round, but with more downside than upside, it's safer to wait a round or two.
