Fantasy Football Draft Guide - Player Profiles and AnalysisJonathan Stewart, RB, Carolina Panthers
By KFFL Staff Jonathan Stewart | Carolina Panthers | 5-foot-10, 235 pounds | 2nd year
Pros: A densely built north-south runner who can push the pile, Stewart also brings speed (4.48 in the 40) to the table. In his rookie season, his talents translated into 10 rushing touchdowns and a 4.5 yards-per-carry average. Stewart rushed for a combination of at least 50 yards and a minimum of one score in seven games while sharing the backfield with running back DeAngelo Williams. Carolina loves to pound the ball, and Stewart offers a good chance of providing a cheap touchdown if you are desperate for a spot-play. Cons: Stewart (184 carries) is the backup to Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams (273 carries). There were seven games in which Stewart racked up fewer than 10 carries. While he has not missed a game, J-Stew has battled offseason injuries. Toe surgery limited him prior to his rookie campaign; recently he missed organized team activities with pain in his left Achilles' tendon. Moreover, Stewart caught only eight passes, limiting his value in point-per-reception leagues. Still batting an Achilles' tendon injury, Stewart isn't practicing and may miss Week 1. Fantasy tip: Stewart is a No. 3 running back, demonstrably capable of producing even with Williams in the starting role. Stewart's average draft placement - the sixth round - is reasonable, given his upside. You have to be concerned about his ankle problem, though. He should be handcuffed to Williams whenever possible.
