Fantasy Football Draft Guide - Player Profiles and AnalysisJerricho Cotchery, WR, New York Jets
By KFFL Staff Jerricho Cotchery | New York Jets | 6-foot, 207 pounds | 6th year
Pros: The 27-year-old Cotchery becomes the default No. 1 wideout and top option in the Jets' passing game following the free-agency departure of wide receiver Laveranues Coles (Cincinnati Bengals), so Cotchery's targets and red-zone looks obviously should increase noticeably this year. Known for his great hands, Cotchery has caught 70-plus balls in each of the last three seasons. He also averaged 4.4 receptions and 53.6 receiving yards per contest in 2008. Cons: New York's murky quarterback situation likely will impact Cotchery's numbers to an extent; he will have to catch passes from either rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez or inexperienced quarterback Kellen Clemens. With Coles gone, enemy defenses will undoubtedly shift their attention to Cotchery. Although he has decent speed, Cotchery is not a burner and never has scored more than six times in a season. Fantasy tip: Despite the quarterback situation, Cotchery still rates as a competent No. 3 fantasy receiver, because the Jets will have to lean on him heavily. You can safely target Cotchery starting in the lower seventh or early eighth round.
