Fantasy Football Draft Guide - Player Profiles and AnalysisSantonio Holmes, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers
By KFFL Staff Santonio Holmes | Pittsburgh Steelers | 5-foot-11, 201 pounds | 4th year
Pros: The Super Bowl XLIII Most Valuable Player is a big-play wideout and is not afraid to catch the ball in traffic. The 25-year-old Holmes should see more downfield action in 2009, because slot wide receiver Nate Washington (Tennessee Titans) left via free agency, and the Pittsburgh wide receiver corps lacks veteran depth. He has averaged a healthy 16.6 yards per reception in his career and has averaged five touchdown catches per year. Cons: Holmes did not top the 100-yard receiving mark last season for the run-first Steelers, averaging just 3.6 catches for 54.7 yards per game. Like most deep threats, his fantasy production was inconsistent from week to week. Holmes failed to top 35 yards receiving in seven outings. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger seems to favor wide receiver Hines Ward (128 targets in 2008) over Holmes (117 targets in 2008), especially inside the red zone (21 red zone looks for Ward, just 12 for Holmes). Fantasy tip: Unless Holmes' fantasy production becomes more consistent and the 2006 first-round pick logs a few big games, he rates as a just low-end No. 2 fantasy receiver with moderate upside that you can target in the sixth round.
