Fantasy Football Draft Guide - Player Profiles and AnalysisDwayne Bowe, WR, Kansas City Chiefs
By KFFL Staff Dwayne Bowe | Kansas City Chiefs | 6-foot-2, 221 pounds | 3rd year
Pros: Here's lookin' at you, "El Bowe." The Chiefs sought out their top receiver in droves last season, and he earned the fourth-most looks among wideouts last year (159). KC shouldn't hesitate to keep the physically talented receiver near the top once again, especially with new head coach Todd Haley's offense in place. Bowe has proven to be durable, playing in each of his first 32 games. He has grown over that time, too, averaging 78.0 catches and 1,008.5 yards per year, including 86 and 1,022 last year. He recorded fewer than five catches only five times in '08. Bowe will probably assume most of the red zone looks, too, with the departure of a former Chiefs staple. Cons: While it makes Bowe the undisputed center of attention, the departure of tight end Tony Gonzalez takes some protection away, meaning defenses should start keying on the third-year wideout. He isn't much of a breakaway threat, having pulled in just two catches of 40-plus yards in his career; both came in '07. This may improve in Haley's setup, but new quarterback Matt Cassel needs to prove he can go deep consistently for Bowe to mature in his category. The running game also remains suspect even with Larry Johnson on roster, and the offensive line still needs to show consistency. He'll match up with some elite cornerbacks in the loaded AFC West schedule, too, in the Oakland Raiders' Nnamdi Asomugha, the Denver Broncos' Champ Bailey and either the San Diego Chargers' Antonio Cromartie or Quentin Jammer. Fantasy tip: Don't read much into Bowe running with the third-team offense, because he is now back with the starting group and should be the Chiefs' No. 1 receiver this year. Bowe can be taken as a low-end No. 1 receiver, with a bit more value given to him in PPR leagues. Opportunity to gain a frequently visited rapport with Cassel remains his biggest draw in his third season (red alert!), but he has already set himself on a faster pace of maturity. He's a great option if you want to start your draft with two running backs, and he probably won't last after the third round anyway.
