Fantasy Football Draft Guide - Player Profiles and AnalysisKnowshon Moreno, RB, Denver Broncos
By KFFL Staff Knowshon Moreno | Denver Broncos | 5-foot-11, 217 pounds | Rookie
Pros: The Broncos surprised pundits by selecting Moreno, but there's a new regime in town. The former Georgia Bulldog was widely considered the most complete back available. In his final two seasons of college, he ran for 2,734 yards and 30 touchdowns; he caught 53 passes for 704 yards. Moreno expressed confidence in his ability to contribute right away because Georgia ran a partial zone-blocking scheme with striking similarities to that of new head coach Josh McDaniels' offense. None of Moreno's veteran competition has ever sustained success as a starter, and this rookie impressed in offseason workouts. Denver's offensive line remains a quality unit. Cons: Turmoil? Quarterback Jay Cutler (traded to the Chicago Bears) and wideout Brandon Marshall (who wants out) may be malcontents, but their defections (potential in the latter's case) have to sink offensive expectations. The accused, McDaniels, brings fantasy insecurity, with no definitive history. The New England Patriots rotated backs while McDaniels was the O coordinator there, as Denver did under departed head coach Mike Shanahan. In the last few years, Shanny named a new starter every week! Will McDaniels be slow to change? Does he favor veterans? Moreno was third on the depth chart at OTAs. LaMont Jordan, Correll Buckhalter, Peyton Hillis and Ryan Torain (knee) aren't stars, but they've proven useful in one role or another in their careers. Denver's defense is awful and made no significant changes. Will they even have time to run? Fantasy tip: Head coach Josh McDaniels must prefer the obvious choice over sixth-round gems and undrafted free-agent surprises. You don't take a Moreno without letting him be your horse as soon as he's ready. The rook's draft status, talent and self-assurance mean he'll be No. 1 at some point. Risk comes from uncertainty; when will that be, and how bad is this team? Moreno could easily perform like a No. 2 fantasy back or totally disappoint. Ideally he's your upside No. 3 back, which may require taking three in four rounds. You're bold if he's your No. 2, but winning sometimes requires boldness.
