Fantasy Football Draft Guide - Player Profiles and AnalysisKyle Orton, QB, Denver Broncos
By KFFL Staff Kyle Orton | Denver Broncos | 6-foot-4, 217 pounds | 5th year
Pros: Recently named the Broncos' starter, Orton is coming off a career season with the Chicago Bears. He was allowed to expand his offensive horizons in the first half of the season before an ankle injury hit, topping 250 yards four times before their Week 8 bye. New head coach Josh McDaniels, former New England Patriots OC, will presumably give Orton more freedom this season in what could be a high-octane system. He'll have another strong tight end to throw to in Tony Scheffler, who has already proven to be an offensive threat in previous years. Second-year wideout Eddie Royal will also resume his big role after a 91-catch debut season. The Broncos offensive line created ample time for the departed Jay Cutler last year, and the Broncs retained the hogs. Cons: Can he move past his first instinct to check down? Orton was picked off 10 times from Week 13 to Week 16 - will he falter down the stretch again? Will stud wideout Brandon Marshall (hip) get to prove to Denver that he's healthy, or will he be traded after his reported anti-Denver comments surfaced? A long stretch of disappointment could prompt Denver to finally give Chris Simms, who had pushed for the job during minicamps, another shot to be a starting NFL quarterback. Fantasy tip: Remember that Orton will be allowed to create more in the passing game. Do your best to overlook the stigma created by the Chicago Check-Downs. His 11th-round ADP could rise as the draft season moves along; you may be able to address other needs before sneaking Orton on as a valuable backup.
