Breaking News and Injury AnalysisLos Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Ervin Santana returns to DL
By Michael Egnak Mike DiGiovanna, of the Los Angeles Times, reports Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim starting pitcher Ervin Santana (triceps) has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his triceps area. Pitcher Sean O'Sullivan will start the team's game Tuesday, June 23, in Santana's place. Santana threw in the bullpen Sunday, June 21, but began to feel discomfort afterward. Santana said, "The pain is not that bad - I don't think it's a huge setback. I just told them I don't want to pitch until I'm not feeling any pain." Santana had struggled recently after his first stint on the disabled list. Santana allowed a combined 22 earned runs in his last four games while only throwing 19 2/3 innings. He shouldn't be dropped just yet, only because of how well he performed last year and the potential for him to return to that form once he is pain-free. O'Sullivan performed well in his last start in Santana's place. He threw seven innings of one-run ball and took the win against the San Francisco Giants. O'Sullivan will pitch at home against the Colorado Rockies Tuesday, and he could provide a solid spot start in daily fantasy leagues. However, it's more likely that there are more attractive options available on your league's waiver wire. His best value comes in AL-only setups, considering he has a chance to be in the rotation for as long as Santana is out.
