Tom FitzGerald, of The San Francisco Chronicle, reports with only a few practices remaining for the San Francisco 49ers before they take six weeks off, it is impossible to tell who has the upper hand in the quarterback competition. QBs Shaun Hill and Alex D. Smith are competing for the starting job. The competition is expected to dominate training camp, which begins July 30.

Mike Klis, of The Denver Post, reports the Denver Broncos expect WR Brandon Marshall (hip) to show up Friday, June 12, but neither Marshall nor his agent are directly confirming he will. He has stayed away from the team's voluntary minicamps the past three weeks because of medical trust and contract issues. Participation for their minicamp this weekend is mandatory. Marshall is in the final year of his contract, which will pay him $2.198 million this season. He may not be eligible for unrestricted free agency after the year unless a new CBA is reached. Marshall, a fourth-year player, would become a restricted free agent if a new CBA doesn't happen.

Brent Schrotenboer, of The San Diego Union-Tribune, reports San Diego Chargers WR Vincent Jackson had his request for evidence to be suppressed denied by a San Diego Superior Court judge Thursday, June 11. Jackson's attorney, Cole Casey, plans to appeal the ruling. Casey said he hopes this ends up in the federal court, because they believe Jackson's Fourth Amendment rights were violated through an unreasonable search and seizure. Casey has argued Jackson was forced to have blood drawn against his will after being arrested Jan. 6 on suspicion of drunken driving.
