The Associated Press reports Boston Red Sox first baseman Kevin Youkilis (oblique) was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 5, with oblique soreness. Youkilis was injured when he was hit by two pitches in similar areas that led to tightness and bruising.
The good news is that the team expects him to return when he's eligible May 20. With Youkilis out, first baseman Jeff Bailey is expected to get the majority of starts. Bailey is hitting just .184 with a home run and six RBIs and doesn't present much fantasy value, except in AL formats.
Place Youkilis on your bench or DL spot and wait out the week he'll miss.
