Breaking News and Injury AnalysisNew York Yankees net SP CC Sabathia
By Ryan Dodson FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal reports free-agent starting pitcher CC Sabathia (Milwaukee Brewers) has agreed to a seven-year deal worth approximately $160 million with the New York Yankees, according to a major league source. The contract is the largest ever for a pitcher and the fourth largest in major league history. The deal will be officially completed after Sabathia passes a physical and the remaining language issues are resolved. Sabathia's dominance once he was traded from the Cleveland Indians to Milwaukee last season is well documented. He went 11-2 with a 1.65 ERA and 128 strikeouts in 130 2/3 innings with the Brewers. It's likely that part of the reason he was so dominant because hitters in the National League hadn't faced him much in their careers. He struggled slightly in the first half, though. He went 6-8 with a 3.83 ERA with Cleveland. He hasn't had an ERA that high since 2005. While one shouldn't expect to see Sabathia's dominant numbers in the National League, he is still a premier fantasy starter. Sabathia's move to the American League East may not be much of a detriment, but the competitive division could have a slight negative impact on his fantasy value. However, Sabathia will just be 29 years old midway through next season and is in his prime. He is sure to be one of the first pitchers taken in most drafts next season and should continue to be a consistent fantasy ace.
