KFFL's Fantasy Baseball Rankings Report gives fantasy baseball players the scoop on any happenings that have significantly affected KFFL's fantasy baseball rankings and projections.

Are the M's ready to can the idea of turning their best reliever into a starter? Another starting pitcher named Santana with elbow concerns?

First basemen

Rich Aurilia, San Francisco Giants

When San Fran re-signed this right-handed hitter, it was merely to provide a complement at first base to Travis Ishikawa. The 37-year-old has entered the twilight of his career but should still have value in deep NL formats.

Third basemen

Pedro Feliz, Philadelphia Phillies

It may seem odd to drop Peter Happy in the same week that he returns from back surgery, but back problems are the reason he finally took a slight hit. Such injuries can recur easily and hamper a player's power production. Feliz's numbers required a reduction to more probable expectations.

Designated hitters

David Ortiz, Boston Red Sox

Although the slight soreness Big Papi felt while playing first base in the World Baseball Classis isn't much reason to be concerned, it served as a reminder that he's a little brittle. The original outlook for a player of his girth was a bit optimistic, so now expectations have been tempered a tad.

Starting pitchers

Ervin Santana, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

MI6 has been targeting the elbows of stud fantasy starters named Santana; Ervin is the latest victim. He's expected to begin the season on the disabled list, and you can't expect him to hit top form as soon as he comes back. He's a safer choice as a low-end No. 2 or high-end No. 3.
