Breaking News and Injury AnalysisSt. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson to miss Week 10
St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson (thigh) missed practice Friday, Nov. 7, and he will not play in the team's Week 10 game. Jackson has endured a frustrating season for both St. Louis and fantasy fans. He stumbled out of the gate with just 159 rushing yards and no touchdowns through his first three games. However, he was just turning things around when he suffered the injury - he ran for 349 yards and four touchdowns. His final game before suffering the injury saw him rush the ball 25 times for 160 yards and three touchdowns. Entering Week 9, Jackson was a game-time decision that played, though he only lasted seven carries (for 17 yards). He was unable to practice fully this week, which was head coach Jim Haslett's criteria for having him start. According to Bill Coats, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, owners shouldn't be surprised if Jackson is sidelined for another week or two. With Jackson out, the burden of the load will fall on three backs - Antonio Pittman (hamstring), Kenneth Darby and Samkon Gado. However, Pittman is coming off a hamstring injury suffered last week, and he may be limited this week. Gado was just signed Tuesday, Nov. 4. Running back Travis Minor (concussion) passed a neurological test after suffering a concussion but will not be active. Those owners not familiar with Darby should note he is a small back that is decisive in his cuts and sticks low to the ground. He should be the one to carry the load this week. However, he has just two career carries, so there is no proven track record. After Darby, the next in line would appear to be Pittman or recently signed Samkon Gado. Pittman ran well in Week 8 - 19 rushes for 83 yards - but, as stated above, there is a chance he could be limited this week. Gado was signed Tuesday, Nov. 4, and he has not done much since his "breakout" season in 2005 with the Green Bay Packers (just 270 yards in four years since). From a fantasy perspective, Darby should be acquired in all leagues for those looking to build depth at the position. He should be a starting back this week, and to land someone in that position from the waiver wire is a solid find at this stage of the season. In addition to Darby, owners could look at Pittman. He was the starter when Jackson missed time earlier this year, and he could return next week if he is healthy ... and if Jackson misses another game. Gado should not be acquired in any leagues.
