Chad Finn, of The Boston Globe, reports the Boston Red Sox placed starting pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka (arm) on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, April 15, with arm fatigue.

Matsuzaka lasted only one inning against the Oakland Athletics Tuesday, April 14, throwing 43 pitches and allowing five runs before suffering from arm fatigue. He apparently told the team that his arm was feeling weak before his start Tuesday.

Dice-K has posted an ERA of 12.79 with five strikeouts and five walks in just 6 1/3 innings pitched. He has also given up a total of nine runs and 14 hits while tallying a WHIP of 3.00.

The team will use starting pitcher Justin Masterson in Matsuzaka's place. Masterson will make his first start Monday, April 20, against the Baltimore Orioles.

Matsuzaka's struggles in the early going are likely related to his arm fatigue. He went deep into the 2009 World Baseball Classic while pitching for Japan. The Red Sox have not indicated that his arm issue is very serious.

Fantasy owners of Matsuzaka should stash him in a disabled list spot for the time being while continuing to monitor his progress. Masterson could be a temporary fill-in for your fantasy staff, as he was stretched out in Spring Training in the event that the team would need him as a starter. The promising right-hander had a great spring and pitched four scoreless innings, with six K's and two hits allowed, after Dice-K exited that Tuesday outing.
