Last season, QB Kurt Warner, even when he was backing up Leinart, came in when the Cardinals had a goal-line situation. This year, indications are that the starter will remain in the game no matter where the offense has the ball. Head coach Ken Whisenhunt said Leinart is "much better this year" in terms of changing plays at the line.

The Associated Press reports Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers made his first start as the new starting quarterback in Green Bay Monday, Aug. 11. Rodgers hit 9 of 15 passes for 117 yards, one touchdown and one interception. The interception wasn't his fault, as it deflected off one of his receivers into the hands of a defender. Rodgers left the game after the first quarter.

Burress did not run any patterns at full-speed, but caught a few passes. He did not take part in 7-on-7 or 11-on-11 drills. Burress said he just wanted to gauge how he felt. "I felt OK. I just got some new stuff (orthotics) in my shoes and this is the first day I ran in them," Burress said. He noted his feet were sore and it will take some time to get used to. He hopes to practice Thursday, Aug. 14. The team has Wednesday off.

During the play, Jones was jarred by Bengals S Marvin White, knocking his helmet off before he bounced away and wound up in the end zone. "I was kind of rocked for a minute, too," Jones said. However, Gates said he still has pain in his left big toe but that the pain is 'tolerable.' "It looks better than it feels," Gates said. "It's not as comfortable as it looks. I got through it. The pain is tolerable." Gates is frustrated with his level of improvement at this point, even though doctors have said that setbacks are normal for his type of recovery. "It's about the same as it was last week," Gates said. "My whole thing is I want to see progress, and I want to see it fast." Gates hopes to progress to hitting pads next week and perhaps return to practice soon after that. Gates said he still believes he will play in the season opener.
