Green Bay Packers QB Brett Favre Reinstated

by Ryan R. Bonini on August 3, 2008 @ 05:58:59 PDT

ESPN's Wendi Nix reports Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre's plane is scheduled to land in Green Bay at 6:30 p.m. ET, but Favre does not plan to attend the team's sold-out Packers Family Night at Lambeau Field. Packers officials plan to meet Favre upon his arrival.

ESPN's Ed Werder reports Favre said NFL commissioner Roger Goodell reinstated him Sunday, Aug. 3. The Packers have not confirmed Favre's reinstatement, and said it was not possible for him to be reinstated Sunday because it was not an official business day for the league.

Reinstated officially or not, Favre is expected to report to Packers training camp Monday, Aug. 4, by 1 p.m. ET. The Packers say they will be prepared to make a roster move regarding Favre at that time. This is where things become dicey for both Favre and the Packers.

Green Bay has made it clear they do not want Favre to play again - not for them or any other team. Favre, on the other hand, apparently doesn't care and is ready to force their hand. Showing up on their door step is the quickest way of saying: Get rid of me! He was mulling over a reported $20 million deal to serve as the face of the Packers for the next 10 years. Apparently the hush money to make him quietly go away didn't work.

Fantasy football players need to just sit back while this situation plays out. Will Favre be in Green Bay when all is said and done? The common sense approach after all that has happened would say no, but nothing in this whole situation has really followed a logical path, either. The fantasy value of Favre, current Green Bay starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers and many other players should be more clearly known soon.

If you are taking part in your fantasy football league Sunday, Favre and Rodgers should be handcuffed together as a No. 2 fantasy quarterback in order to cover your bases. Either could be capable as a low-level No. 1 fantasy quarterback in the Green Bay offense, but right now there is no guarantee they will both be in Green Bay a week from now. Stay tuned as this soap opera continues to unfold....
