Quarterback

QB | Brett Favre | Retired | Draft Information
Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports the Green Bay Packers have no intention of releasing QB Brett Favre, according to sources. Sources say the team is prepared to welcome Favre back to the team as a backup to QB Aaron Rodgers. The Packers would likely trade Favre before releasing him, sources have stated. Favre informed the team that he wanted to play again in late March during the NFL Owners Meeting, according to sources, who have spoken to FOXSports.com. Head coach Mike McCarthy and general manager Ted Thompson agreed that Favre has what it takes to play again and were going to charter a jet to Mississippi to announce that Favre would be back in 2008. Two days before the announcement, Favre notified McCarthy that he changed his mind and wanted to remain retired. Team officials were shocked at Favre's decision to stay retired but decided to move on and head into the NFL Draft, with the team drafting QB Brian Brohm and QB Matt Flynn. A few weeks ago, Favre spoke with the team via phone and said that he wanted to play again. The team had already decided to move on with QB Aaron Rodgers expected to be the starting quarterback.

QB | Eli Manning | New York Giants | Fantasy
Dan Martin, of the New York Post, reports New York Giants DL Justin Tuck knows several players on the team will have to step up and lead the team after the retirement of DL Michael Strahan. Tuck thinks QB Eli Manning needs to be the main leader of the team for them to be successful this year. "I think the No. 1 candidate to really make a difference will be our quarterback, especially after the run he had in the playoffs," Tuck said. "He's still growing and I don't think anyone looks at him as Peyton's little brother anymore. I'm pulling for him."

QB | Jeff Garcia | Tampa Bay Buccaneers | Transaction
Rick Stroud, of the St. Petersburg Times, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jeff Garcia would likely be cut if the team signed former Green Bay Packers QB Brett Favre.

RB | Kevin Jones | Free Agent | Free Agency News, Fantasy

Judd Zulgad, of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, reports Pittsburgh Steelers WR Hines Ward was picked as the smartest offensive player in the NFL in an ESPN.com poll of select NFL coaches. Quarterbacks could not be included in the vote.

WR | Marques Colston | New Orleans Saints | Fantasy
Mike Triplett, of The Times-Picayune, reports New Orleans Saints WR Marques Colston's possible contract extension does not appear to be close to done anytime soon. The team has begun preliminary talks with Colston's agent, but nothing is expected to be finalized this month.

WR | Brandon Marshall | Denver Broncos | Fantasy
Steve Yingling, of The Denver Post, reports Denver Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan still has faith in WR Brandon Marshall and has not given any indication that he will suspend Marshall. "I can't go into great detail, for obvious reasons, but Brandon has a good upside and he's a real good kid," said Shanahan. "I feel very good where Brandon's at. I think he'll be fine."

WR | Brad Smith | New York Jets | Injury News
Erik Boland, of New York Newsday, reports New York Jets WR Brad Smith (back) said that he has recovered from his back injury.
