Bill Plunkett, of The Orange County Register, reports the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have placed third baseman Chone Figgins (hamstring) on the 15-day disabled list with a hamstring injury.
Figgins came off his first stint on the disabled list Wednesday, May 21, and played that night. However, he has not played since because the same hamstring that bothered him during his first DL stint became sore and forced him to miss the Angels' last seven games. He has only played four games this month because of this injury.
He has been playing well when he can stay on the field. He is hitting .306 with seven RBIs and 11 stolen bases. He has struck out 29 times and walked 24 times this season. The speedster has been caught stealing four times. Out of his 38 hits so far, he only has six extra base hits, which are all doubles.
From a fantasy perspective, Figgins is counted on most for his ability to help in the stolen base category for a fantasy team. This injury has severely hurt his fantasy value because it could hamper him for the rest of the season. For the time being, owners should place Figgins on the disabled list if they have the roster space. If not, they should stash him on their bench. Owners should start looking for another source of production for their stolen base category.
