Kansas City Chiefs running back Priest Holmes (neck) was banged up after the team's Week 11 game. Holmes left the game in the fourth quarter and appeared injured. Holmes saw a specialist earlier this week and is expected to see a handful of specialists to help determine his future. Reports have surfaced suggesting that Holmes will announce his retirement. However, other reports have noted that he is contemplating the decision. He already returned from a neck injury this season after missing two years of action. It is uncertain whether Holmes will play again.

Running back Larry Johnson will not play in Week 12, amid reports that he may be done for the remainder of the season, and the team will be thin at the running back position going forward. Backup running back Kolby Smith may see a large amount of touches in the team's upcoming Week 12 game against the Oakland Raiders.

Smith is a rookie but has played in nine games this year. However, he has yet to start in his professional career. Smith has totaled 19 yards on 10 carries and no scores - not great numbers to be able to fairly assess the rookie running back. Smith likely becomes the only available back on the team for Week 12, so they may look to add another veteran back to split the workload with him. Good news for the Chiefs is they are playing at home against a Raiders defense that is feeble against the run (150.2 yards per game to running backs in the past four weeks).

Since Johnson is not going to play, Smith should be picked up. He will be matched up against the Raiders in Week 12, as mentioned. Smith has yet to prove himself at the NFL level, but the matchup against the Raiders is definitely a good time to get your first start - especially since the Chiefs are at home, where history shows they play better. Any starting running back is worthy of a roster spot, so give Smith a whirl if you have the room to acquire him.
