The Associated Press reports Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Jason Schmidt (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with shoulder inflammation. Schmidt had an MRI Monday in Phoenix, and there is no timeframe for his return. He will take a few days off to see if the irritation subsides.

The move was retroactive to Sunday, April 15, meaning he will be eligible to return from the 15-disabled list Monday, April 30. Schmidt has struggled to start the season, pitching just 11 innings in his three starts. In those three starts, Schmidt posted a 7.36 ERA and a 2.00 WHIP. However, he has struck out 13 hitters through 11 innings.

No one has been named as the starter for Thursday, April 19, when the Dodgers play the Colorado Rockies in Coors Field. The team will likely go with Mark Hendrickson for the game, which would allow the team to bring up a reliever. Hendrickson lost the battle for the No. 5 spot in the rotation in spring training, but he has started 120 games in his six-year career. In his career as a starter, Hendrickson has a 37-47 record and a 5.04 ERA. He has also been great in relief this season with a rare 11 strikeouts in 11 innings.

Hendrickson isn't much of an option in fantasy leagues, as he'll likely head right back to the bullpen once Schmidt is healthy enough to return. With a 17-13 record and a 4.47 ERA in 47 career games in April, Schmidt typically starts his season off slow anyway. However, his velocity was so off in his past start that fantasy owners should make sure he is fully healthy before putting him back in the lineup.

Cincinnati Reds starter Kyle Lohse has had a strong start to the season with a win, a 2.53 ERA, a 1.03 WHIP and 19 strikeouts in 21 1/3 innings. He’s an option to fill Schmidt's void on your fantasy team. Pittsburgh Pirates starter Tom Gorzelanny is as well. He has two wins and a 1.33 ERA in three starts.
