Kevin Acee, of the San Diego Union-Tribune, reporting for the Sporting News, reports San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers (foot) is walking with a limp but without a protective boot. He has been seen doing light squats and playing golf, but is not ready to run just yet. He is expected to be able to participate fully in the team's May 4-6 minicamp, and in all the coaching sessions with new head coach Norv Turner.

Right now, Jordan and Rhodes stand to receive a comparable number of reps during training camp and exhibition games to see how the two-back system will work for the team.

Matt Maiocco, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Nolan is planning to keep RB Frank Gore fresh throughout the 2007 season. Nolan said he hopes Gore will touch the ball fewer than his 312 carries in 2006. "It would be nice to get somebody in there who could take some of the load. There's a lot of wear and tear on a running back who runs like he does. He doesn't shy away from too much and he's not a huge guy, although he's stocky and sturdy. He takes a lot of punishment."

John Tomase, of the Boston Herald, reports New England Patriots LB Tedy Bruschi (wrist) recently underwent surgery on his broken left wrist. He underwent surgery in late March to have a pin removed because he was still feeling pain, according to a league source. Bruschi is expected to be ready for training camp.
