Alex Marvez, of the Sun-Sentinel, reports the Miami Dolphins are interested in unrestricted free-agent QB David Carr (Texans), who may be a better option than trading for Kansas City Chiefs QB Trent Green. Carr would not cost the Dolphins any compensation, and he is nine years younger than Green.

Dave Hutchinson, of the Star-Ledger, reports the New York Jets signed free agent QB Marques Tuiasosopo (Raiders) to a one-year deal worth $595,000.

Vic Ketchman, of Jaguars.com, reports Jacksonville Jaguars QB Byron Leftwich will not attend the team's offseason conditioning program Monday, March 26, although he plans to attend the team's OTA practices, tentatively scheduled to begin Tuesday, May 8. Leftwich has been working out in south Florida for the past month and he will continue his personal workout regimen throughout the spring.

Steve Corkran, reporting for the Sporting News, reports the Oakland Raiders returned from the NFL Scouting Combine with some concerns about Louisiana State QB JaMarcus Russell being their man for the top pick in the draft. Publicly, the Raiders haven't commented about Russell or any of the other players who attended the combine. Privately, however, certain Raider officials have questioned Russell's work ethic and have shown concern about his weight being a long-term problem.

John McClain, of the Houston Chronicle, reports the Houston Texans have signed restricted free-agent QB Matt Schaub to a six-year contract worth $48 million with $7 million guaranteed. Schaub will receive $20 million in the first three years. If Schaub stays with the team the last three years of the contract, the Texans will have to pay Schaub a $10 million option bonus in 2010. The Texans paid QB David Carr an $8 million option in 2006 to keep him for the last three years of his contract.

Aaron Wilson, of the Carroll County Times, reports Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Rick Neuheisel attended Stanford QB Trent Edwards' workout Tuesday, March 20, following up a trip last week to scout Michigan State QB Drew Stanton. Edwards ran the 40-yard dash in 4.7 seconds and completed 47 of 50 passes.

One name they might consider in the first round is Central Michigan OT Joe Staley, who had a great Pro Day and fits the Patriots' mold in a number of ways. He'd fit right into their system and could possibly challenge OT Matt Light at left tackle down the road. Another player they might be interested in is Rutgers RB Brian Leonard, who shifted to fullback this year and is a complete player, with good blocking and receiving skills.

By giving Dolphins RB Ronnie Brown a blocker like Schlesinger to clear holes for him, it could allow the former second-overall pick to finally begin showing the skills Miami expected to see from him in his first two seasons. Schlesinger, a 13-year veteran, is one of the best blockers in the league.
