QB | Brett Favre | Green Bay Packers | Injury News
Pete Dougherty, of PackersNews.com, reports Green Bay Packers QB Brett Favre (ankle) will undergo surgery to remove bone spurs from his left ankle in the coming weeks. A date has not been set for Favre to have the procedure done, but he is not expected to miss the club's post-draft minicamp in early May. Favre has been bothered by the injury for the past five years and is hoping the operation will provide relief and improve his mobility.

QB | Cleo Lemon | Miami Dolphins | Free Agency News
Barry Jackson, of the Miami Herald, reports the Miami Dolphins have begun contract talks with impending restricted free agent QB Cleo Lemon this week, according to Lemon's agent J.R. Rickert. Rickert added the team has told Lemon they expect he will compete for playing time.

QB | David Carr | Houston Texans | Fantasy
Updating a previous report, John McClain, of the Houston Chronicle, reports the Houston Texans have admitted receiving interest from other teams regarding QB David Carr's availability. "First, let me say that David is our starting quarterback," general manager Rick Smith said today. "I've fielded some calls about some of our players, including a couple of inquiries asking whether David might be available." If Carr is traded, the team would likely look for a veteran to compete with QB Sage Rosenfels for the starting job.

Running Back

RB | DeShaun Foster | Carolina Panthers | Fantasy
Pat Yasinskas, of the Charlotte Observer, reports the Carolina Panthers can clear $3.3 million from their salary cap if they cut RB DeShaun Foster.

RB | Kevin Jones | Detroit Lions | Injury News
Updating previous reports, DetroitLions.com reports Detroit Lions RB Kevin Jones (foot) is right on schedule with his rehabilitation from a Lisfranc injury suffered last season despite earlier reports suggesting Jones could miss the first half of the 2007 season. Jones is feeling good and is optimistic he will return sometime in training camp. "My goal is to get back by training camp and try to be able to move around," Jones said. "They're not going to rush me back and take the chance of me re-injuring myself. But to say I'm going to miss half the season is idiotic because nobody knows the exact thing that's going to happen with my foot. The doctor who did it said I would be back by training camp, so who would know better than him." Lions head trainer Al Bellamy added, "We are extremely happy with Kevin's progress. His rehab is going very well and he is right where we hoped he would be at this point in time."

RB | Cedric Benson | Chicago Bears | Injury News
John Mullin, of the Chicago Tribune, reports Chicago Bears received good news after RB Cedric Benson (knee), who suffered a knee injury during Super Bowl XLI, underwent an MRI on the injured knee and the results were negative.

WR | Calvin Johnson | NFL Draft Prospect | Draft Information
Katherine Smith, of the Tampa Tribune, reports Georgia Tech WR Calvin Johnson, who is widely regarded as one of the elite prospects in this year's NFL Draft, is attracted to the idea of playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who select either third or fourth overall this year. "I could definitely see myself fitting in down there," Johnson said of Tampa Bay. "It would be real nice."

WR | Travis Taylor | Minnesota Vikings | Free Agency News
Kevin Seifert and Judd Zulgad, of the Minnesota Star-Tribune, report the Minnesota Vikings have not held substantive contract talks with WR Travis Taylor, who is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this year. Taylor appears poised to hit the open market.

Tight End

TE | Jim Kleinsasser | Minnesota Vikings | Free Agency News
Kevin Seifert and Judd Zulgad, of the Minnesota Star-Tribune, report the Minnesota Vikings are evaluating whether to retain or release veteran TE Jim Kleinsasser this year. Kleinsasser, who only caught seven passes last season, is scheduled to make $2.9 million next season.

DL | Terdell Sands | Oakland Raiders | Transaction
Jerry McDonald, of ANG Newspapers, reports the Oakland Raiders have re-signed DT Terdell Sands to a four-year contract worth $17 million. He received $4 million to sign the deal. The deal includes salaries of $800,000 (2007), $1.2 million (2008), $1.3 million (2009) and $4.6 million (2010). Roster bonuses of $1.3 million in each of the next three seasons and $800,000 in the final year are also included.

Cornerback

CB | Dre' Bly | Detroit Lions | Free Agency News
Nicholas J. Cotsonika, of the Detroit Free Press, reports Detroit Lions president Matt Millen and head coach Rod Marinelli have given CB Dre' Bly permission to seek a trade this offseason. The Associated Press reports the Green Bay Packers have signed CB Al Harris to a two-year contract extension. The new deal adds a pair of roster bonuses worth a combined $4.5 million and modest Pro Bowl incentives to his existing contract. "Like I've said the whole time, I wasn't trying to break the bank. I just wanted to be compensated for the work that I do," Harris said in a story posted on the Wisconsin State Journal Web site. "I'm satisfied; I'm extremely satisfied."

Strong Safety

SS | Tank Williams | Minnesota Vikings | Free Agency News

FS | Adam Archuleta | Washington Redskins | Free Agency News
John Mullin, of the Chicago Tribune, reports should the Washington Redskins decide to part ways with S Adam Archuleta this offseason, the Chicago Bears might express interest in the veteran safety. Last offseason, the Redskins outbid the Bears for the services of Archuleta, who played under Bears head coach Lovie Smith while Smith was still a member of the St. Louis Rams coaching staff. A new rule allows Archuleta to hit the market at the outset of free agency and the Redskins will likely release him in early March.
