Phil Richards, of the Indianapolis Star, reports Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning (thumb) bruised his thumb on his throwing hand during the AFC Championship Game Sunday, Jan. 21, but X-rays performed this week revealed no broken bones and he is expected to start in Super Bowl XLI versus the Chicago Bears Sunday, Feb. 4. "There's no concerns with that at all," owner Jim Irsay told the Associated Press. "He's fine."

Updating a previous report, the Detroit Lions announced they have agreed to terms on a three-year contract with WR Mike Furrey. Financial terms were not disclosed. Furrey was slated to become an unrestricted free agent in March.


Defensive Line

Vic Ketchman, of Jaguars.com, reports Jacksonville Jaguars DL Reggie Hayward (Achilles') is recovering well from Achilles' tendon surgery and expects to be ready for the starting of training camp. "Right now, I would say I'm about 80 percent," Hayward said in an interview Tuesday, Jan. 23. "I'm close to getting on the field and doing some running. I should be ready to participate in mini-camps; able to run and do drills. Of course, we're going to make sure I'm all right." Hayward tore his left Achilles' tendon in the third quarter of the team's 2006 season-opening game. Scar tissue was also found on Hayward's right Achilles, which is the reason he has not been able to begin running yet.


Linebacker
