--RB Brian Westbrook: Marc Narducci, of the Philadelphia Inquirer, reports Philadelphia Eagles RB Brian Westbrook (knee) remains questionable for the Week 5 game with inflammation in his right knee. Westbrook was questionable for the Week 4 game and ended up being inactive because the swelling in his knee appears to disappear only momentarily. Head coach Andy Reid said, "It's kind of gone dry and then comes back. It has bounced back and forth, but for the most part we're getting it under control." Reid did not say what is causing the swelling to reappear, but added: "We've had it checked and double-checked and so on. We have a pretty good feel of what's going on there."

Previous Updates
Offense
--QB Chris Simms: Rick Stroud, of the St. Petersburg Times, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Chris Simms (spleen) believes it was a hit suffered during the first quarter of the Week 3 game against the Carolina Panthers that could have led to his spleen condition. "Personally, I know when it started," said Simms, who had the wind knocked out of him and thought he might have cracked a rib. "It was a ball I threw away toward the Carolina sidelines in the first quarter. That was definitely the start of the problem. Now, did my spleen rupture and start bleeding at that point? I don't know about that. I really don't. I was in significant pain from that point on, and ... I took a good number of hits after that. I'm sure that didn't help the situation.” Simms absolved the club’s medical staff from any wrongdoing while he was in pain during Week 3.
--QB Luke McCown: Rick Stroud, of the St. Petersburg Times, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Chris Simms (spleen) believes he might be able to return to the football field this season despite being hospitalized to have his spleen removed after several vicious hits during Week 3. "I feel if I can play, why not play?" said Simms, who will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. "I can't hurt my spleen again. It's one less thing I can hurt. I feel like I'm on the right track, my body is responding well. If I can get back into shape, I'm never going to turn down a chance to play football. I love it too much." A more likely scenario has the club keeping Simms on their active roster until QB Luke McCown (knee) can return off the PUP list.
