Simms played through the pain and said Thursday, Oct. 5 he is not second-guessing himself about staying on the field with an injury that could end his season. Simms and the team originally thought he had bruised ribs and was dealing with dehydration, but he ended up with a ruptured spleen. Simms was unsure of when his spleen ruptured, but he claims he started dealing with significant pain during the first quarter. Simms said he is comfortable with team physician Dr. Joe Diaco and believes the team's medical staff did everything possible to ensure his safety. Simms added, "I never felt like I was in danger. It's hard for an athlete to say you're in danger because we think we can play through anything. I told Dr. Diaco, 'I feel OK. I can play.' It's a tough position for him. Here I am telling him I can play. What's somebody supposed to do?"
